I'm a Person-Centred Counsellor (MSc Counselling and Psychotherapy) and Systemic Practitioner (PGCert Systemic Practice). The way that I work is in focusing on building a working relationship, where difficulties and concerns can be explored and processed in a way that feels safe and authentic. I work in an unstructured way, which allows for the sessions to follow organically and I take into account wider structural and relational patterns as we work, which may be particularly helpful if you find yourself caught in repeated cycles and/or feel stuck.
My perspective stems from a willingness to develop and maintain an awareness of social and structural issues that impact upon people on an individual level and to hold this awareness in the process of therapy, taking into account political, economic, social and cultural issues. I'm a member of PCSR (Psychotherapists and Counsellors for Social responsibility) and work towards reducing prejudice and discrimination within and outside of my practice.
In addition to my role as a Counsellor, I'm a Lecturer, teaching Counselling approaches, skills and theory on Counselling and Psychology degree courses.
I have worked in short-term solution-focused settings and can work to a fixed session model, and can also work longer term. I work face-to-face, over the telephone or online.
