About me

I am an Accredited Counsellor who is committed to a confidential, non-judgemental and respectful approach. I combine psychodynamic counselling and cognitive behavioural skills (CBT) to help clients overcome issues by introducing new positive feelings, thinking and behaviour patterns. Also incorporating reflective and reframing work to help clients gain new perspectives on their issues.

We will explore individual issues in detail to help clients understand any recurring patterns in their thinking and behaviour. Also discuss the influence and the impact of the clients childhood years to help build their self awareness. Use theories and concepts that can help in making these positive changes.

Psychodynamic counselling helps people review emotions, thoughts, early-life experiences, and their present-day problems to identify patterns they have developed over time. Recognising recurring patterns helps people see the ways in which they avoid distress or develop defence mechanisms as a way of coping so that they can take steps to change these patterns.

Psychodynamic Counselling works by bringing the unconscious thoughts and feelings to the surface. There is an emphasis on the influence of the past, and on recurring patterns of relationships. A difficult and painful situation in the present may have its roots in the past but the individual may not be aware of the connection.

CBT focuses on how a person’s thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes affect their feelings and behaviours.

During our counselling sessions we may consider your current difficulties in the context of past influences and experiences, exploring your childhood, significant relationships, beliefs and responses. You will be able to recognise more choices available to you in order to make changes now and in the future.

I have gained my counselling experience practicing in local community organisations. I also work closely with support services in Warwickshire and other regions.

I also have a professional and personal interest in addiction, including drugs, alcohol and gambling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
