About me

Are you struggling and looking for an experienced therapist who will listen to you in a comfortable and safe space, and help guide you through a difficult time?

If so, I can help.

MBACP registered and a fully qualified counsellor, I’ve been a therapist for over 10 years. In that time, I've helped clients work through numerous concerns, from addiction, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and adult attachment issues, to domestic abuse, personality disorders and relationship problems.

Background

After going through my own personal struggles, I initially embarked on a personal development course and from there went on to do my degree in integrative counselling and psychotherapy. During my training I was drawn towards the theory of childhood attachment. Our early experiences form characteristic ways of relating to other people and of coping with the ebb and flow of emotions which are not only psychological predictions but also physiological patterns. They are the bones of emotional life, hidden outside our awareness - the invisible history of everyone.

Having worked through my own difficulties in training I can truly understand and empathise with others.

Experience

I have spent a considerable amount of time working with offenders who have drug and alcohol related problems, both in the community and in a prison setting. Treatment around addiction is not just about tackling the addiction, but rather looking at the dependency, exploring the root of the problem considering childhood events and memories; I have a psychodynamic method, looking at how early experiences have helped shape present day behaviours.

Therapy

We are all unique individuals and my approach focuses on carefully tailored integrative therapy in a safe, relaxed environment, promoting a healthy alliance between mind and body to clear a path which helps you move forward with more clarity and confidence.

In addition, if you are looking to develop skills like mindfulness and be better at managing your emotions, DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy)* could be a good option for you.

Confidentiality and Trust

Confidentiality and trust are the foundation of the client/counsellor relationship. I offer a relaxed, comfortable, non-judgemental environment where you are free to share your thoughts and talk about painful, difficult issues in the safety of our space.

Testimonial

Thank you for being so kind, patient and grounding. You were such a help in regulating my mind when it was just pure chaos, I will forever be grateful for that! You’ve taught me many tools to maintain this and I’m glad I found you to support me through my difficult moments, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!”

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

*If you are looking to build skills like mindfulness and be better at managing your emotions, DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) could be a good option for you. Especially, if you are overwhelmed and feeling that factors outside of your control are negatively impacting your quality of life, health, or relationships.

We are getting asked about DBT more and more. It’s hard to access DBT on the NHS and often there is a long waiting list, so I’m pleased to be able to provide this much-needed service.

Research shows that DBT has been used successfully to treat people experiencing depression, bulimia, binge-eating, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic-stress disorder, and substance abuse.

It’s not a quick fix but it can help change behaviour in the long term. Clients who have DBT skills training will be supplied with a DBT workbook that we will work through together at a pace that is comfortable for them.

What’s the difference between CBT and DBT?

Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) is a specific form of cognitive-behavioural therapy. Whilst similar there are some important differences. DBT seeks to build upon the foundation of CBT, to help enhance its effectiveness and address specific concerns that the founder of DBT, psychologist Marsha Linehan, saw as deficits in CBT.
