About me

I will help you understand what is happening when you feel depressed, angry or anxious, and provide you with practical tools, as well as brief solution focused therapy to help you feel better quickly.

A typical session will include gathering information about you, your life and how the problem is affecting you. We can then identify your strengths and resources, agree clear goals for the session and a strategy for change; then using a range of therapeutic tools, we begin the process of change. People usually notice immediate, positive changes in their lives. Typically 2-6 sessions are needed, occasionally we will need to work together for longer. Where relevant I will integrate mindfulness based meditation into my work with you. You are welcome to phone me for an initial discussion prior to arranging to come and see me.

We know that we have physical needs which must be met for us to survive and thrive. But what we often don’t realise is that our emotional needs are just as crucial for physical and emotional wellbeing. When I work with you we will look at which of your emotional needs are not being met and then work together to enhance your resources to meet your needs and build resilience.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked successfully with clients experiencing a range of problems including depression, stress, anxiety, trauma/PTSD, phobias, panic attacks, sleep problems, loss and bereavement. When I work with you we will review progress each time we meet to ensure that the approach we have agreed is working.

Relationships and family life are often challenging; at times we all need some additional support, whether it is after an affair or navigating our way through separation or divorce.

I work with children and young people experiencing anxiety or perhaps exhibiting challenging behaviour at home or school.  This work, predominately through play, has been a real delight to me and my children's vintage Lego has had a new lease of life as I integrate it and other resources into my work with children.

As well as my private practice I am a therapist for PTSD Resolution a charity that works with veterans to reduce the impact of trauma to enable them to engage fully with work and family life after leaving the military. I also volunteer at the Fountains Centre a charity that supports people with cancer and their carers.

I have had a stimulating and interesting career working in nursing, education for parenthood, probation, career coaching and personal development. The common thread is enabling people to be emotionally and physically healthy and achieve their potential. My qualifications include a post-graduate diploma in Psychotherapy [Nottingham Trent University], a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management [Portsmouth University] and B.Sc. in Nursing [Leeds University]. I have CRB disclosure.
