Are you having problems and issues in your relationship right now? We all do at times, sometimes it is just the ebb and flow of life, sometimes we know deep down it is more serious and this can be very upsetting, worrying and stressful. Maybe you are not in a relationship but would like to be but are afraid you will make the same mistakes again. Patterns can be broken, you can make healthy choices. As a Relationship and Psychosexual Therapist my aim is to always provide a safe, emphatic, non-judgmental environment in which you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experience. I use an integrative approach that seeks to tailor the therapy to the individual or couple, in the moment. For example, I may use my experience of Emotional Intelligence/Education to help clients understand and manage their emotional states, simply put the key components are:
- Managing your emotions through personal insight and awareness.
- Understanding other peoples behaviours and feelings.
- Managing your relationships, using effective communication and social skills.
Do you find yourselves having the same negative experiences and conflicts across all of your relationships? For example, intimate and personal, within the family, friendships and even work? Have you been handed roles by your family and friends that you have never questioned, for example:
- The carer
- The scapegoat
- The clever one
- The black sheep
- The neurotic
- The provider
These roles can weigh heavily on our shoulders and it can be difficult to let go of them and make healthy choices about who we are and how we wish to live our lives. Awareness and self-knowledge is the first step to understanding and ultimately letting go of these unwanted and uninvited roles, then we can begin to live the authentic lives we wish to lead.
