Hello, my name is Sally Brown and I am a BACP-registered counsellor/therapeutic coach. I hope to offer you a safe place to explore difficult feelings and face upheaval or challenges, understand why you feel the way you do and find a positive way forward.
The world of therapy is changing rapidly and it no longer has to involve endless hours unpicking your childhood. I believe that in most cases significant change can happen fast in the right environment, and that you can start to feel better from the very first session.
I’m an integrated therapist, which means I work with several techniques that complement each other. One-size does not fit all when it comes to therapy, so I aim to offer a bespoke service for each client, based on my training in psychodynamic counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy and therapeutic coaching.
I work from a small counselling centre in Bedford town centre, but I also do a lot of work by Skype. If you find it difficult to get to therapy on a regular basis due to work or caring commitments, or because of a health problem or disability, Skype can be a good alternative. If you're new to therapy and feel daunted by the idea of one-to-one sessions with a counsellor, Skyping from the comfort of your own home can ease you in gently. If you don't have access to Skype, telephone counselling can also work well.
Finding the right therapist for you is crucial. I abide by the BACP code of ethics which means I am committed to working safely, ethically and confidentially. But it's also important to feel comfortable with your therapist and understood by them. Part of the purpose of an initial assessment is for you to get an idea of whether you feel you could work with a counsellor. I am also happy to have a preliminary phone conversation, free of charge, to help you decide whether it would be useful to book an assessment. You are also very welcome to email me if you have any questions.
Training, qualifications & experience
Like many others working in this field, psychotherapy is a second career for me. After a successful career as a journalist, I started training as a counsellor part-time in 2007 and have since qualifying in 2013, I have combined client work with my media work. I regularly write about emotional and psychological health for the national media but please be assured that I never reveal details of any client. Before I started my private practice, I worked at Bedford Counselling Centre.
