About me

People seek help for a variety of reasons - a long-term problem that doesn't go away, an immediate crisis, or feelings of emptiness/lack of meaning to life.  Giving time and attention to your distress in the company of a listening, empathic, impartial therapist can lighten the load and allow you space to review your situation, how you live and experience life.

I have experience in working with a wide range of problems, including childhood neglect and abuse, relationship difficulties, life crises, depression, anxiety and stress, low self-esteem, anger and trauma.  I am knowledgeable and experienced in working with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

I have been working as an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor for the last 25  years. As a holistic therapist I pay attention to the whole person. I believe that when we increase awareness of our body, mind, heart and soul we can develop a deeper and truer sense of ourself. This in turn allows us to explore our life story and understand what gets in the way of relaxation, vitality, joy and creativity.

I work from my home in Charlton Down, Dorchester, Dorset.

Training, qualifications & experience

1996 - 2000   Diploma in Psychotherapy at Chiron Centre, London
1992 - 1996   Certificate in Holistic Psychotherapy at Chiron Centre, London
1984 - 1986   CQSW/DipSW at Kingston Polytechnic, Surrey

I continue to acquire new knowledge and skills by attending training courses and workshops.

I receive regular supervision and continue to work on my own self-development. It is important to me that I maintain my own emotional health and professionalism.

I am registered with United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and UKAHPP.  I abide by the code of ethics of these  bodies.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Further information

How counselling and therapy works -

I offer both short-term counselling and longer-term therapy.

In either case, we will usually have an initial phone conversation during which we will discover if we feel reasonably comfortable with each other.  If this is the case, we will arrange and meet for a first session.  In that meeting I will ask you about your current circumstances and take some details of your history.

At the end of this first appointment, if you wish to see me again and I feel that I am able to help you, I will suggest that you commit to a further five meetings.  During these sessions we will concentrate on understanding your circumstances and finding some resolution that you feel good about.

Towards the end of the six sessions we will review their usefulness to you and whether you would like to continue to see me.   If that is the case, we can agree a plan that is most helpful to you and your situation.
