About me

Counselling and psychotherapy can offer a great source of comfort, relief and a sense of wellbeing. It can help us through difficult times in our lives.

The way we think and feel about ourselves significantly impacts  how we live our lives. It determines our levels of confidence and self esteem. As a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with over 17 years experience I have an interest in enabling you to understand how unhelpful thoughts and unconscious emotional processes can cause you to remain in a cycle of repeating unwanted behaviours, and can negatively affect your life.

In addition to my private practice, I have extensive experience working in a variety of settings, as well as undertaken training to support clients with alcohol and/or substance misuse issues and the related difficulties that may arise from their addiction.

From listening to my clients I have come to understand how deciding to begin counselling can feel quite scary. It's for this reason that I offer a free 30 minute online or telephone assessment session that will give us the opportunity to discuss your requirements and for you to ensure that you feel comfortable with working with me. There is no obligation to book further sessions following this assessment session.

What are the benefits?

Therapy offers a reflective space to talk about something which you might not want to talk about with your friends or family, and a safe space to start to work through your issues in your own time. Therapy can empower you to make the changes you need.

Engaging in the therapeutic process will allow you to discover new perspectives regarding your concerns, in an understanding and non-judgmental environment. I will help you to identify your patterns of behaviour, and to understand the reasons why you think about yourself and experience other people in the ways that you do. Therapy encourages a new way of looking at our old thought patterns.

Events, experiences and people throughout your life will have had an influence on your self esteem and self confidence and any issues or concerns that you have about this, as well as your thinking, behaviour and how you feel about yourself.

Gaining an understanding of these complex issues will provide you with more self awareness, self esteem and confidence, and give you a more balanced outlook, which can ultimately lead to a more rewarding life and improved relationships with others.

Client Testimonial (November 2019)

I went to Saffron to help me with my relationship with my family. Saffron did a great job of supporting me as I worked through various issues, I felt very comfortable around her and she offered lots of insights each week. My sessions with her have helped me gain an understanding of my emotions and reactions, as a result I feel in control, grounded and confident in all parts of my life. It was a fascinating journey and I learnt a lot about myself, lessons I will hold on to going forward. If you decide that counselling is the next step for you, I can highly recommend Saffron to help you.

My Most Recent Supervisor’s Report (August 2017)

Saffron’s training and theoretical orientation is integrative, which reflects in her practice as her approach is to be open minded to meet the needs of her individual clients. She has a strong understanding of Person Centred Theory which reflects in her work. I am able to witness her build a strong therapeutic alliance with her clients which is an important, fundamental belief of hers. This combined with her awareness of the need to provide the core conditions demonstrates that she has a very strong foundation of person-centred theory. Saffron’s commitment to offering the core conditions allows her to work effectively with the client, building a safe relationship with good strong boundaries.

Saffron is very aware of the need for consistently strong boundaries for both herself and clients. Client’s safety and wellbeing is of paramount importance to her as well as being mindful of her own self care.  She makes good use of supervision and the beneficial effect of her commitment is evidential in her client work. I believe that Saffron transfers her personal moral qualities into her practice as described by the BACP ethical framework. Her particularly strong qualities are empathy, integrity, humility, sincerity, resilience and courage.

Over the years Saffron has shown many examples of her awareness of the BACP ethical framework within supervision. She encourages open and honest communication with her clients which is also a reflection of her ethos. She shows respect for her clients and ensures their therapeutic needs are being met.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
