Ruth Quinn MBACP
I am a skilled Therapist with a lot of experience in supporting people with depression, generalised anxiety and loss and a wide variety of other issues. I am also now practising as a supervisor for other counsellors.
When you first come for counselling we will sit and discuss what it is that is going on in your life that has got you make contact with me. We will then talk about the ways in which I can help and I will outline various modes of working. Together we will plan a way forward. This may involve employing a variety of techniques, as I very much believe that each person requires a bespoke package of therapy. We will discuss how often you want to come for sessions and discuss what are your priorities. Some people prefer to work intensively for a short period, whilst others prefer a slower approach. Money and financial constraints also need to be considered.
I am trained in a body based psychotherapy and a person centred approach and work with mindfulness based practices and brief interventions. I use CBT techniques if required and my practice is informed by extensive learning in a wide variety of areas. I am skilled in working with clients struggling with trauma and developmental trauma.
I run a private practice from my home which is accessible for wheelchair users. On Thursdays I work from a town centre address. I have also worked extensively with young people, as a Lecturer in Counselling and also in hospice work.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have completed a training in body centred psychotherapy and have Person Centered Diploma in Advanced Counselling and Therapeutic Skills. I have been working with Mindfulness based Psychotherapy for five years. I have experience in counselling young people between the age of 11 - 25 and also in working with adults struggling with anxiety, depression and grief. I have also worked a lot with clients with OCD, GAD and self harming. I also have extensive experience in working with issues related to sexuality.
I aim to work with clients and provide a bespoke package of therapy that attends to their needs and may involve a range of strategies and interventions.
I have taught CBT and Solution Focused Brief Therapy and use these interventions if they are the most appropriate.
