Ruth Goldwater, Arrow Valley Counselling
I provide one-to-one counselling for both personal and work-related issues.
My counselling practice is based on face-to-face therapy, which is centred on the needs of the individual.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy(MBACP). I trained with the University of Worcester and locally in Herefordshire, completing my qualification in 2012. In 2013 I qualified to join the BACP Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
My practical counselling training was in a doctor’s surgery, which means that I have worked with of all kinds of people and all kinds of issues or problems including: coming to terms with life-limiting illness; loss, grief and bereavement; infertility; unemployment; relationship problems; abuse; self-esteem; living in a foreign land; anxiety, stress and depression, and much more.
Before becoming a counsellor, I built up a successful career in human resources management, during which time I worked with people experiencing difficulty at work, including bullying and harassment, ill-health/sickness absence, redundancy/reorganisation, and disciplinary issues. I have qualifications in workplace mediation and in stress management and I have conducted research into workplace stress. I have also published an article about workplace counselling for a professional journal.
People describe me as calm, approachable and professional. I would add that I am a practical, down to earth person who has experienced enough in life to understand that things can sometimes feel overwhelming, confusing or hopeless. However, I also believe that we all have inner resources to find a way through things or make positive changes – sometimes it just takes a bit of support from someone else to get there.
