About me

Are you struggling with distressing, difficult or painful feelings? Do you sometimes feel low or anxious? Are you feeling confused, or at a crossroads in your life? Do you feel stuck?

We can all feel like this sometimes. Counselling can provide an opportunity to talk openly to someone about those things in life that don't make sense, make you worried, anxious, depressed, angry etc. A counsellor will listen, without judgement  and help you to explore these feelings and emotions.

I am an attachment-focused, humanistic counsellor, meaning I work in a very gentle, non-directive way, placing much emphasis on building a solid, safe and secure relationship between us as a foundation for exploration.

Counselling can help a person learn new ways of relating to themselves as well as to those close to them. Often I find that a persons early relational environment has an impact on current relationships and exploring this can help us make sense of who you are today, why you might behave in the ways you do, especially in relationships and can help to recognise patterns that may be holding you back or causing you distress and which you may want to modify or change. I believe in helping a client reconnect to their inner, wiser self, that part of us that can become obscured for many and varied reasons.

From my own experience, I know how daunting it can be to choose a counsellor to work with. For this reason I want to tell you a little about myself to help you decide if I am the right person for you to work with.

I am a warm, gentle-natured, caring, friendly and approachable person.I come to counselling from a 25 year nursing career, having recognised my desire to be able to provide greater emotional help to individuals. During my career I have had the privilege of meeting countless people, witnessing and supporting emotional highs and lows, as well as offering a listening ear when needed. I have had the opportunity to be with people through challenging or frightening processes such as surgery or serious illness and even death. I recognise that emotional help can make a huge difference to a person's experience. I am passionate about working with people and in particular about how counselling can help in difficult or challenging times.

Please feel free to call me for a no-obligation conversation prior to making an appointment.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
