About me

Thank you for looking at my profile. There are times in our lives when difficult circumstances arise, such as bereavement, relationships breaking down, job losses, or family issues, and we are often ill equipped to deal with these unexpected situations, or we may not even know what the problem is, and we may become depressed or confused as a result. Sometimes it is difficult to talk to family members or friends, whereas counselling helps us to talk through these issues freely, without being judged or criticised, and in a safe, friendly and confidential environment.  I have experience in dealing with university and college students, particularly those with ASD or Aspergers Syndrome. I am happy to do face to face counselling or alternatively online by Skype etc, or by telephone.

There may be issues with self-esteem and lack of confidence, or problems which have been with us for a very long time and we have subsequently become ‘stuck’ in our lives, unable to deal with them. If we are given the opportunity, with support and patience, to work through these together, hopefully we will then be able to see them more clearly and eventually be able to move forward. As counsellors we want to find out where the client would like to be in their lives and how they can achieve that, and we need to give them the opportunity to be fully heard.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified experienced therapist with a Diploma in Counselling from the University of Derby, along with the Higher Education Certificate in Counselling from Manchester Metropolitan University. I am a registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and I operate within their Ethical Framework for Good Practice to provide my clients with the best service possible.

The type of counselling I offer is integrative, which means that I have experience in many different kinds of counselling, and the issues that the client brings to me determines which one I would offer them.

I have had extensive training in both psychodynamic and person-centred counselling which means that I can help the client to go deeply into discovering the source of their problems for themselves. I have also had training in Gestalt, CBT, Psychosynthesis and Existentialism.

From September 2016 I have been a Specialist Student Mentor at various universities in the area, including Keele, Chester, and Staffordshire, and also Reaseheath and South Cheshire Colleges and this is very rewarding. It includes seeing students with autism or aspergers for which I have received specific training.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
