Hello, my name is Ros, I am a counsellor who truly believes that talking about and sharing a problem is the most effective therapy.
I am also a firm believer that one's own experience of life is what is important, as this is what shapes that person, but it doesn't define them. I work with this principle and sometimes I draw on my own experiences as a way of understanding others, but I believe that a person knows what is best for them and should not compromise their own values. Certainly my own life experiences have influenced my belief that whatever happens to us in early life has a huge effect on how we behave and the kind people we attract. Indeed a sure indication of how much a person can change during and after therapy is the fresh people they will appear in their life.
What is counselling.
The counselling relationship is quite unique, it is based on strong boundaries and confidentiality, it is designed to empower the client by enabling them to look more closely at problems within a safe environment. This is all underpinned by the counselors attitude, personality and unconditional positive regard for their client. It is also a relationship that is equal, therefore it is my keen wish that a person is able to develop increased personal awareness as a result of their counselling experience, thus living a more satisfying life.
I am aware of how difficult it can be to take that first step when seeking help, but I can promise you a sincere, honest and warm approach, as I feel this works well. I can also provide a relaxing and confidential environment, where you can explore any issues that are troubling you.

Training, qualifications & experience
I am a full member of the BACP, The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I have an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling. The model of counselling I use, but not exclusively, is person centred. The use of this model places the importance on what is real and in the here and now for that person, without any judgement and with total acceptance.
Whilst I have been training to be a counselor, I have attended voluntary placements and many workshops in order to aid my continued development. I have trained and worked with Victim Support and Cruse Bereavement Care, and have recently done voluntary counselling for CRI, which is a drug and alcohol center based in Brighton. I have also worked as a volunteer in a doctors surgery. At present I am a volunteer with Dragonflies FSN. This is a charity that works with groups of children who have all lost someone close to them.
At present I am in Jungian Analysis, studying and learning about the fascinating world of dreams, images and the collective unconscious. I have a keen interest in dreams, as I think they provide an intriguing glimpse into a persons unconscious.
Before my studies in Counselling I attended art college and managed to gain a Diploma in fine art. This helped my own development through a difficult time in my life. Studying art has enriched my life, also it has complemented and enhanced my career as a counselor. My aim as a therapist is to treat you as an individual and enable you as my client to realize your own potential.
