Rosa Yong Hanks MA MBBS
Initially trained and qualified as a doctor, over 7 years of clinical work I became increasingly interested in psychological issues and their impact on people's health and way of living. I completed a full qualifying training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with Arbours Association. Arbours Association has an outstanding reputation in working therapeutically with individuals suffering from severe emotional distress.
In providing a safe environment and offering a willing listening attitude, I work collaboratively with you to understand the difficulties that affect your daily life. I offer open-ended psychoanalytic psychotherapy and time-limited, short-term focussed work, depending on your needs.
Understandably the intensity of psychotherapy depends on your need as well as on your readiness. Therefore, during the assessment sessions, we will try to understand your presenting difficulties and to decide the most appropriate therapeutic approach. I will also discuss the practical arrangements, such as the frequency of therapy, fees, breaks and holidays. The assessment usually takes 2-3 sessions. Each session lasts 50 minutes.
Once we've decided to work together in therapy, we will find a mutually convenient time at the same time and on the same day each week, to begin our regular therapeutic work.
Training, qualifications & experience
My experience in psychotherapeutic work includes working in therapeutic communities, in an NHS psychotherapy service, a student counselling service in higher education and in charitable organisations. I am interested in human experience. In particular, I am interested in those unspeakable experiences which often leave people feeling overwhelmed, and sometimes cause individuals to be unable to function – unable to go to work, to love, to see their friends. Understanding such experiences and how they affect and influence us can, I believe, not only bring relief, but also help to rebuild the ability to live fully.
I am registered with the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy (UKCP) and abide by the UKCP's code of ethics. I am committed to continuous professional development, which means that I am always topping up my training, and hold full professional indemnity insurance.
