I am a person-centred counsellor who specialises in counselling children, families, young adults.and all those on the autistic spectrum and their families I have worked with children, families and young adults for over 40 years as a social worker, teacher and counsellor. Although I am a person-centred counsellor I also draw on other approaches such as CBT and solution focussed brief therapy for which I have undertaken training. I have consulting rooms in Stratford upon Avon, Leicester and Banbury but can also arrange to come to the clients own home, school or alternative location. Although I have a diploma in education for children with special needs, I do not do written assessments myself but can make referrals to appropriately qualified colleagues. I work with people on the autistic spectrum of all ages as well with their families. I also specialise in work with children from 5 upwards, families students and young adults.
Training, qualifications & experience
Diploma in Counselling and Interpersonal Skills from the University of Warwick
Diploma in Education for Children with Special Needs from Oxford Brook University
Certificate of Education from the London Institute of Education
Certificate of proficiency in counselling from BACP
I worked for the London Borough of Camden as a social worker but chose to qualify as a teacher. I then spent four happy years working in the east end of London initially as a primary school class teacher, then as teacher in charge of a withdrawal unit for those children in need of extra emotional support. I moved to teach in a secondary school for children with social and emotional problems in the Cotswolds since I wanted to bring up my own children in the countryside.
Later, I moved to Stratford upon Avon to run a specialist facility for secondary school children who were not coping in mainstream education.
Next I became teacher/advisor for Warwickshire County Council when much of my role was counselling children and/or parents.
I took retirement in 2002 but was asked to work with a group of autistic children. Over the last eleven years I have developed strong links with other professionals in this field.
