With a warm-hearted, engaging and effective approach, I work with couples and individuals in counselling, psychotherapy and personal-development. Whether you are seeking a ‘light touch’ therapy of just a few sessions to address a particular issue, or are looking for open-ended work to engage with more deep-seated difficulties, I can support you in making the changes you wish for in your life. I do this by use of the following three tools:
Awareness: While you already know yourself deeply, I provide a professional expertise and method that will expand your awareness. As we all do, you have an ‘operating system’ of knowledge about other people, yourself, ‘correct’ behaviour and so forth. In many ways this supports you in the present; in other ways it may be out-of-date and self-limiting. An increasingly full and deep understanding of these dynamics will provide a solid foundation for change.
Relationship: Human beings are inherently relational; we need each other for our very survival and sense of well-being. This is why difficulties in relationships, or loneliness, can be so distressing. As in all therapy, the ‘therapeutic relationship’ between you and I will be important. It acts as a ‘secure base’ to support you in trying out new ways-of-being and the building of better relationships in your everyday life.
Action: My present-focused approach addresses the consequences of historical events, and the anticipation of future events, via activities in the present. This includes the traditional thinking, feeling and talking. It can also involve activities such as role-play. Trying out something new in the safety of a therapy session is wonderful support for doing the same in everyday life.
If you have any questions or would like to book a no-further-obligation initial session, then please give me a call or send an email.
