About me

Life can sometimes be unreasonably difficult and you might feel ill-equipped to navigate its challenges. Or you might just want to live in a more fulfilling way.  Working through such questions in a supportive and professional context can provide some insight that helps bring about change.

I can provide that context, whether you want to address a long-standing and recurring experience, or find a way of developing a greater capacity to live more consciously and creatively.  For me, psychotherapy is a joint endeavour in which I work with warmth and understanding to encourage a relationship of trust, openness and equality.

I will usually draw on a variety of approaches, including Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Transpersonal, Existential, Gestalt, TA, Cognitive Approaches and Art Therapy. Depending on the needs of particular clients I use techniques such as Visualisation, Creative Imagination, Dream-work and EMDR (which has been found particularly effective in the treatment of Trauma, as well as a variety of other issues).

My special interests include the Arts, Interfaith issues, Religious and Cultural Practices and Psycho-spiritual studies. I work with sexual, cultural and religious diversity and Trauma.

I have experience in working with clients on the following:

         Depression, Isolation, Loneliness, and Trauma
         Creativity,
         Indecision, Life changes and ageing,
         Bi-polar and Borderline Personality Conditions,
         Sexual Abuse, Bereavement, Relationship Issues,
         LGBTQ and Sexuality issues,
Developing rituals to aid healing and mark life changes.

I offer appointments online using applications that are fully encrypted and secure.  This allows flexibility in location to suit clients and allows for the "social distancing" required these days.  However, somewhere private, without interruptions, is advised to ensure confidentiality.  Online work is best on a desktop or laptop, but can work with a notepad or smart phone.  It is also effective with EMDR sessions, using applications developed specifically for its use.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have trained as an Integrative Transpersonal Psychotherapist at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE) in Little Venice, London, completing a four-year postgraduate Diploma Programme. Prior to that I completed a year’s training in the fundamentals of counselling with the Centre for Transpersonal Psychology.  And since then, completed EMDR training parts one, two and three.

My adult life began as an architect in South Africa and I subsequently studied fine art in the UK. Prior to studying psychotherapy I worked as an artist, participating in a variety of creative projects. I have in-depth experience of the creative process and working with creative individuals.

As a member of, and registered with, UKCP I work within ethical boundaries defined by UKCP (and BACP) codes of Professional Practice.  I accordingly receive regular supervision and follow a programme of continuing professional development to keep my practice and knowledge deepening and growing.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
