Sometimes life can be challenging and you may feel isolated in your attempts to battle through it. You may believe that admitting to someone you are finding life hard, or that you’re unable to cope alone is a sign of weakness. However, it could be one of the most courageous things you ever do for yourself. It’s not easy to reach out, especially if you usually ‘deal’ with things alone. But, know there is another way—support is available to you and change is possible. You don’t have to go through this difficult time in isolation.
So, if you’re feeling stuck or are struggling with difficult emotions, I’m here to listen.
I am a qualified and registered integrative counsellor who is passionate and dedicated to providing a therapeutic service that inspires positive change and helps you to create a life for yourself that feels more hopeful and fulfilling.
Trained in delivering both Psychodynamic Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), I have extensive experience supporting people from diverse communities with emotional and psychological issues. This comes from working in charities, a University, the NHS and schools.
How I work
I work from an intercultural perspective, always taking into consideration the relationship between an individual's inner world and their external reality. I recognize the importance of working holistically, thinking about race, religion, culture, beliefs, age, sexuality, spirituality etc, in addition to understanding how ones socioeconomic status, physical health, environment and relationships with others may have an impact on mental well-being and sense of empowerment.
I offer a FREE 15 minute initial telephone consultation.
During the consultation, I'll ask for a brief summary of what has brought you to seek therapy. We will then discuss how I work and how we could effectively work together. I'll answer whatever questions you have about me or about the counselling process in general.
If you decide you would like to go ahead, I will schedule an appointment for you at a mutually agreed date and time.
After the first assessment session and after spending time together, you will get a sense of whether working with me feels right and whether you would like to continue weekly sessions.
Online counselling / Telephone counselling
Online counselling via Skype or the PlusGuidance platform is a great way to secure private, accessible, evidence based counselling at your convenience to gain emotional support and to help you work through any difficulties you may be facing.
I also offer telephone counselling which works in the same way but is conducted over the phone. It is an alternative option to the tradition of meeting with a counsellor in person, outside of the home. Therefore, it maybe the perfect option for you. Calls are also conducted via Skype to facilitate voice chat providing the added benefit of no calling charges. Some mobile devices may be used. You will need to have Skype software downloaded to your phone along with the use of the internet.
There are situations whereby telephone counselling may not be suitable. For example if you are experiencing psychoses, have a personality disorder diagnosis, have a drug addiction or if you are experiencing hearing difficulties. A clients' suitability for telephone counselling will be discussed during the initial consultation.
You can download the Skype software programme for free or I can send you a link to access PlusGuidance, an alternative secure video platform. As long as you have access to the internet, a web camera and a microphone you will be able to log in and access real time face-to-face sessions no matter where you are located.
Whilst engaging with Skype and telephone counselling, it is important to consider if the environment from which you make contact facilitates undisturbed communication. Ideally, you should seek a private and quiet environment.
Both of these services are accessible anywhere you are in the world which may be beneficial for people who are:
- Living in rural or remote areas who are unable to commit to travelling long distances to visit a therapists office.
- Individuals with mobility issues or who are housebound or disabled
- Workers who are unable to commit to regular face to face appointments
- Carers without enough time to include a short break in their day to attend sessions
- Parents who are unable to secure childcare
- Individuals seeking a higher level of privacy and anonymity
Skype and telephone counselling sessions would follow the same structure as in person counselling sessions, the only difference is the format through which the therapy is delivered.
- Therapy sessions are 50 minutes in duration
- A time would regularly be reserved for you each week should you decide to continue with your therapy sessions
