About me

My name is Richard Rowland and I have been a qualified Human Givens Practitioner since 2010. Human Givens is an extremely effective approach to psychotherapy that can provide you with a framework upon which to understand your emotional health and rapidly start to live a far more fulfilling life.

For this reason I consider myself to be just as much a teacher as a counsellor. Together we would explore how these ideas can apply to your own situation and, rather than dwell on the past, we would think about how you can use them to create a far more fulfilling future for yourself.

Together with fellow Human Givens Practitioner, Penny Fuller, we have created our MindAble partnership providing therapy for individuals, couples, and groups. We have also developed a mindfulness and clear thinking course which we run from time to time within Wiltshire. More details about future courses can be found on our website.

I am also director and founder member of Flourishing Together, a charity providing services to schools and parents. We use the same ideas to help children, school teachers, staff, and parents, to build emotional understanding, clear thinking skills, and great relationships. See our website for more information and testimonials.

If you need help with parenting, relationships, depression, stress, anxiety, or many other mental health difficulties, then applying these ideas can really make a difference. Do do get in touch to talk about how I may be able to help. If I do not answer my phone straight away, please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

What to expect

I normally see people at my quiet and comfortable home practice in Whitley, near Melksham, for sessions that will last for around one hour (I charge per session, so do not worry if we go over a little). Unless your situation is particularly complex, I would not expect we would need more than six sessions, and often only two or three. We will decide each time we meet whether or not we need more, always based upon what is most appropriate for you.

When we first meet, we will need to spend a while to thoroughly understand your situation, but my intention will always be to help you to think and feel differently into the future, rather than dwell on the past. We will then consider ways in which you can use these new concepts within your own life and situation. If appropriate we may spend some time using guided imagery, mindfulness or a technique called Rewind which can be very helpful for treating PTSD.

Whilst the ideas we will talk about are likely to be very compelling and straight forward for you, they can work even better if you share and apply them with an important person in your life. For this reason it can sometimes be helpful for you to bring someone along who is prepared to support you and I welcome this if you believe it would be beneficial.
