Richard Leishman, MA, BSC (Hons) Psych, MBACP
07968 736 480
Qualified to Master's Degree level in Counselling and Psychotherapy, I am experienced in delivering both short and longer term counselling support, across a wide range of issues, including anxiety and phobias, relationship difficulties, self-esteem and self confidence issues, depression, eating disorders, bereavement, abuse, and substance and alcohol dependence.
I strongly believe that there is not a "one size fits all" approach to therapy, as we are all unique and have our own particular blend of experiences and qualities, and a key aim for me is to really understand what has impacted upon you, your life and your relationships. I believe that a very important consideration when choosing a therapist is finding someone you feel comfortable with, and who you feel you can relate to and to that end I am very happy to answer any questions you may have, without obligation, to help you decide if I might be the right therapist for you.
Please do also visit my website - www.richardleishman.co.uk - by clicking the link above, where I offer much more information on how I work, what I offer, and you can see a picture of my home studio where we would meet for our counselling.
Training, qualifications & experience
My qualifications are as follows:
- Masters Degree (MA) in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (Pass with Merit)
- BSC Honours Degree in Psychology - 1st class.
- NCFE Certificate in Counselling Skills and Theory Level 1
- NCFE Certificate in Counselling Skills and Theory Level 2
- NCFE Certificate in Counselling Skills and Theory Level 3
I have a depth of counselling and psychology qualifications, including an honours degree in psychology and a masters degree in counselling and psychotherapy, and have worked as a therapist with both Petersfield Counselling Service, based in Petersfield Hospital, as well the Southern Addictions Advisory Service (SADAS - now renamed as Catalyst), based in both Guildford and Haslemere. This allows me to bring a wealth of practical and theoretical knowledge and understanding to my work supporting you.
In my work with both of these agencies, and in my own private practice, I work with adults referred by their GP, or who refer themselves, delivering both shorter term, time-limited counselling and longer term support. I am experienced working with a range of issues, especially anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, abuse, stress and adoption issues, amongst others. I also have additional specialist training and several years experience of working with addiction and substance and alcohol dependence, and family members affected by these issues.
My integrative practice differentiates me from other therapists only trained in one theoretical model, as my wider theoretical understanding and experience means I can tailor our work together so that it most appropriately meets your individual needs.
I have a separate section on my website - called My Integrative Approach - which offers a more detailed overview of how we might work together, a photograph of my counselling studio, and an explanation of how emotional difficulties can develop. The link for my website can be found above.
I am a registered member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and adhere to their ethical standards of practice. The BACP register of counsellors and psychotherapists on which I am included is accredited with the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care.
