Profile

Counselling is a way of gaining an understanding of yourself and the way that you behave in the world. Nearly all of us, at some point in our lives, have experienced fears and anxieties. Sometimes, our lives and circumstances are confusing which leads us to stress and depression. It feels as if everything is falling apart and you are helpless in a world that doesn't seem to understand. Counselling is a journey into your internal, emotional life which leads to a fresh engagement with the world and the people around you. Everyone is an individual and my role as a counsellor is to work with your own uniqueness, to support you and to explore the areas that are causing pain and distress. By working together and supporting you on a journey that, at times, can be painful but ultimately uplifting, you will gain insight into yourself which brings about positive changes in your life. Counselling is open-ended. That is, it lasts for as long as it is needed. I work with depression, anxiety, stress, loss and issues of wellbeing and teenagers.

I frequently work with low-self esteem clients as well as troubled or kicked out teenagers .
I also have a lot of experience with self-harming teenagers, I can empathise with them and i can put myself in their shoes which makes building a bond easier.

What is deliberate self-harm?

Deliberate self-harm (also known as self-injury) is when you deliberately inflict physical harm on yourself, usually in secret and often without anyone else knowing. Some examples are cutting, burning, biting or hitting your body, pulling out hair or scratching and picking at sores on your skin.

Deliberate self-harm is not necessarily a suicide attempt and engaging in self-harm may not mean that someone wants to die. Most commonly deliberate self-harm is a behaviour that is used to cope with difficult or painful feelings.

Why do people deliberately harm themselves?

People who deliberately harm themselves have often had tough experiences or relationships in their lives. You may have:

  • Been bullied or discriminated against
  • Lost someone close to you, such as a parent, brother, sister or friend
  • Broken up with a boyfriend or girlfriend
  • Been physically or sexually abused
  • Experienced a serious illness or disability that affects the way you feel about yourself
  • Experienced problems with family, school or peer groups

Deliberate self-harm may be used as a way to cope with experiences and the strong feelings associated with it. Self-harm may:

In many cases of troubled teenagers, the parents themselves would benifit from counselling as well, and in some cases the parents do accept my counselling.

I've realized since being a teenage counsellor that parents aswell as their teenagers seem to talk a different language to each other.
I've helped alot of teenagers getting back to communicate with their parents again,  Taught parents aswell as the teenagers a different way of thinking...

I facillitate a group for teenagers that are 16 or older at Mhist on Chorley new road in Bolton on Wednesdays from 5-7...
And have finally got my own charity for self-harm kids from any age up to 16 at Capitol House on Tuesdays 5-6
These groups are for free and we do alot of fun things as well as tackle the self-harm problem...
Self-Harm could be anything, cutting, eating disorder, binge drinking, taking drugs or any kind of pills ect...

I love working with teenagers and i can put my self in their shoes and empathise with them and that is why they accept me easier then any other counsellor.

I also do Reiki hands on healing

Reiki Healing

Reiki treatment follows a traditional pattern of hand positions, resting without pressure on or above the body. Reiki is pure energy, and brings about deep relaxation and healing.

Reiki Healing & Body Relaxation

Reiki, meaning "universal life force energy", aims to improve health and enhance the quality of life. It treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit and creates many beneficial effects including relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.

Reiki will improve the results of all medical treatment, acting to reduce negative side effects, shorten healing time, reduce or eliminate pain, reduce stress, and help create optimism.

During a Reiki treatment, the patient usually lies fully clothed on a padded table in a warm, comfortable room. A thorough session lasts between 60 to 90 minutes. For stress reduction one to two sessions are satisfactory, however for chronic conditions long-term treatment may be recommended. Due to its gentle nature, many people fall asleep during this soothing experience of healing.
