About me

People seek counselling for all sorts of reasons. Some may want help with managing painful feelings like anxiety, unhappiness, anger, shame, depression or grief. Others seek help to cope with events and experiences including life changes, repeated relationship issues, loss, illness or bereavement. It often helps to talk to someone who is not a friend or family member, but who can support you as you explore what is concerning you.

I offer face to face sessions in a calm setting, close to the cathedral in central Winchester. I work with adults and can help with a variety of issues, whether the concern be in the present or something that relates to the past.

I have many years of experience in working with a wide range of people of different ages and ethnicities and with a huge variety of issues. Each client's story is unique and I endeavour to honour the courage that it sometimes takes to seek help and to make changes to one's life. I work to ensure you feel comfortable and confident in my skills, my approach and in the non-judgemental and confidential context I provide for our work.

I offer both short term counselling (up to 6 weeks) and longer term, open-ended therapy, depending on individual need. I also offer online support in the form of email counselling - this can take place alongside face to face appointments or as an alternative. Some people find this an easier option and it is especially useful if you have mobility issues, or if you travel frequently and find making regular face to face appointments difficult. Please contact me for more information.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a first degree in English Literature and a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of Reading. My core training was psychodynamic with an emphasis on attachment theory and object relations. I also undertake a minimum of 30 hours Professional Development annually and therefore frequently attend other trainings. Over the years I have continued to develop my skills, taking additional courses in cognitive behavioural therapy and specialist areas like bereavement and loss, sleep and stress management, self-harm and depression. I now work integratively, adapting my approach to each client's individual needs.

I have worked as a counsellor since 1994  - both in Primary Care and in Higher Education. Alongside my private practice, I currently work as a staff and student counsellor at a large local university.
