Reaching4ward is a psychotherapy/counselling service based in the South West of Sheffield.
The focus of the service is on recovery and continued well-being. Our working methods can include the use of both DBT and Art Therapy as part of the therapeutic approach.
We work with many issues including; personality disorders, anxiety, depression, bi-polar, PTSD, confidence and self esteem, combined/complex issues and suicidal/self harming behaviours. However this is not an exhaustive list as everyone is different and not everyone has a mental health diagnosis. Sometimes its just about needing to talk in a safe confidential space. As well as adults / younger adults, we are able to also offer a service to young people under the age of 14yrs (but this would be offered within their home environment).
The service runs from an accessible and discreet location in the South West of Sheffield, close to main bus routes, the train station and the city centre, in some instances people may prefer to be seen at home, so home visits are available for this purpose. Rooms can also be available to facilitate group work.
We offer a wide range of experience in working with individuals As a practitioner, a persons welfare is paramount to gaining positive and effective outcomes from therapy so therefore each situation has a tailored response according to need. The additional combination of CBT, DBT, mindfulness and Art therapy provides an extensive experience for the person who wants to effect changes in their life.
if you are unfamiliar with Art therapy or DBT, here is a bit of useful information;
Art psychotherapy provides a safe confidential space where adult’s of any age can express thoughts and feelings through the use of images/art making and other forms of creativity as well as words. This means that it is a more accessible way of communicating for people who have difficulties in expressing their feelings.. There are lots of people who may find it difficult to articulate their emotions for many reasons, often because of anxiety or depression and also because they are afraid to trust someone
Dialectical behavioural therapy, (DBT) is a strong feature of the service, with the emphasis on developing coping skills and minimising thoughts of suicide and self harm. This is particularly useful for individuals who have a personality disorder diagnosis/depression/stress/anxiety but also it is a therapy that can be helpful for many other symptoms
Following an assessment session, we would make a decision together about whether you want to continue with the therapy and how often we would meet. The sessions will be regularly reviewed as everyone is different and people will need more or less sessions. Being guided by the person who has accessed the service is essential, as it has to work for you.
We hope this has offered some insight into the sort of therapy that is available and we look forward to hearing from you.

Testimonies, which we agreed were relevant (we obtained permission from the clients and though names have been changed the text remains exactly the same)
"I am in a much better place now, I am working full time , i have a relationship and more importantly i have learned to accept my past thanks to your sessions"
"I have referred individuals to this service and the feedback received has been positive. They have found it to be extremely helpful in moving forward in their recovery. They describe the therapists as approachable, engaging and compassionate and that the individual sessions have helped them to explore feelings
I personally feel that this is a valuable resource particularly with clients who have suffered trauma.
John, Health Professional, Sheffield
"My partner contacted the service and my now therapist, she got back to us with the location, prices and information that we needed.
I suffer with a history of depression and anxiety, and was most recently diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. I have been let down by several mental health services over the years but since I started attending therapy , I have finally started to manage my mental health in a positive way, I have been accessing DBT, art therapy and talking therapy that has helped me in so many ways. I feel more confident knowing I am getting real and professional help and support. It has taken me 9 years to find the right support and help to recover and manage my day to day life. I know if I keep coming to therapy I will get better.
I think it is important that services such as this are available to people that struggle mentally and emotionally. Engaging with a service like this will change many lives and has certainly changed mine for the better before I started attending therapy I was suicidal, lost and not coping with life, 9 months down the line I am more career focused, as being a mum also it has helped me manage stuff around my child better and look towards the future".
