About me

Whether you find yourself in crisis or something just doesn’t feel right, I believe anyone can benefit from having a period where you can be listened to in confidence and without judgement. I have worked with people on issues including anxiety and depression, childhood trauma, relationship difficulties and stress at work.

I continue to be inspired by the potential for growth and healing that counselling can offer. You may be surrounded by family or friends, but find yourself slipping into familiar patterns or roles that hold you back. Or you may be feeling isolated and alone. I offer you a safe space where you will not be judged or required to be a certain way. Finding the right counsellor can be difficult. It is important that you find someone you feel comfortable working with. “It’s the relationship that heals” said Irvin Yalom, so go with your gut feelings.

I took the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from Edinburgh University, which involved training in the psychodynamic and person-centred approaches. Psychodynamic thinking explores how our past history affects us in the here-and-now and the person-centred approach honours the inner potential and wisdom within each of us. I have a Diploma in Relational Mindfulness from the Karuna Institute and meditation is also an important part of my life in general. I have worked at Hope Park Counselling Centre and was a volunteer practitioner at PF Counselling in Morningside for 10 years where I worked with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I abide by their code of ethics. I receive regular supervision and am fully insured for the work that I do.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
