About me and how I work:
Hello, my name is Rachel. As you are on my page you are probably trying to find a counsellor to help you. Let me tell you a bit about how I work and what counselling is and isn't.
Counselling is a time for you, and I will really listen to you.
I have experience of working with a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, panic attacks, stress, loss/bereavement, trauma, workplace/career problems and so on. You may know what issue is causing you concern, but you may just have a feeling that life isn't quite right; feeling overwhelmed or of emptiness. The first (and bravest step) is to ask for help.
In our sessions I will help you to explore and work through areas you struggle with. I will do this by listening, asking questions, or by challenging you in a gentle way, or using creative tools to enable you to express yourself. I won't give you advice because I believe that you have the ability to find the best way forward within yourself. This can seem a strange concept at first, but I know from my own experience that given the right relationship which is caring, non judgemental and real, people can grow and change for the better. To find a safe place to explore your feelings and thoughts is very special and helpful.
You are welcome to book for an initial appointment to meet me. At this assessment appointment we will look at what you need help with and how we may work together. You are free to ask questions about how I work, or anything else you need to know. From here you can decide if you wish to continue working with me and I can decide if I am the best person to help you. Please call or email me to arrange an appointment.

The jargon bit!
I work in a Person Centred (non-directive) way using an Integrative Model. This enables me to draw on insights from Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and creative methods. I can explain this more when we meet - the important thing for you is that the counselling I offer will be tailored to your needs and you will be 'in charge' of what you talk about (or don't talk about), what pace you want to work at etc. You are a unique and special individual and I am looking forward to working with you.
Thank you for reading.
