About me

I would like to start by welcoming you to my profile page, I’m mindful you may be facing some challenges in your life, things that may seem outside of your control, and looking for someone to support you. I would like to share with you how I work, and I hope it will encourage you to take the next, brave steps of reaching out.

I am an Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) which means I meet their proficiency standards and comply with their ethical framework. Providing a safe practice is very important to me. Having worked therapeutically with many, as well as being a client myself, I understand the importance of feeling safe.

I specialise in working with adults supporting them to gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their parts, and the world in which we exist. I do this by offering a trusting relationship which is key for therapeutic growth and change. My intention is not to tell you what to do or how to do things, but to listen and understand the difficulties you are facing both internally and externally and together find solutions and comfort.

I trained in a relational, integrated approach to therapy which means I studied a wide range of models which inform my awareness and practice. This includes Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis (TA), Person Centred, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) also known as ‘Tapping therapy’ amongst others. I’m passionate about this way of working as I don’t believe there is one approach for every individual, the fact we are individual means we each have different needs based on our unique experiences. I offer classic ‘talking therapy’ as well as experiential ways of working, which is particularly beneficial for healing trauma. My work supports individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, shame, trauma and bereavement, these are just a few examples. I offer both short- and long-term approaches in line with what your system needs.

A little more about Internal Family Systems (IFS)…

Imagine we were made up of parts, each part with its own unique qualities and role in our system. You may notice sometimes you struggle to make a decision or feel conflicted inside, you may hear yourself say “A part of me wants to go out with my friends but another part wants me to stay in and relax in front of the TV”. IFS is a systematic approach and encourages the exploration of our inner system or ‘internal family’, how it reacts and how it protects us. Many of us have had experiences in life that have caused emotional pain or distress, these experiences have a profound effect on our systems and often force our parts to take on extreme roles to protect those parts carrying extreme burdens or beliefs ie: I’m bad (shame). Maybe we can be curious together to hear what your system is trying to communicate to you, collaboratively enquire and offer support to those parts that need it.

Making a decision to access therapy can be a difficult and daunting time however, getting this far signifies you have accepted you require support, taking control and now marks the beginning of positive change in your life. I invite you to contact me for an initial chat to see if I am the right person to support you.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
