Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Here are a couple of recent testimonials: -

Over one year of counselling, I trusted Rachel, as she showed me that she sincerely cared about me. She never made me feel that I was just another client. She was especially gentle and compassionate when I needed her most when my mother died suddenly. I was able to contact her immediately on the telephone, as I felt my world was falling apart even more.

Counselling is challenging but because I have been given the tools to rebuild my life from the lowest state imaginable to the point at which I am now, I am able to function confidently on a day-to-day basis as my low self esteem and anxiety now hold much smaller parts of my sense of worth.

I always felt like a priority. Rachel was very reliable, understanding, positive, patient, warm, professional and very funny!

I am free at last! Don't think twice about going ahead with it, just do it! It will change your life like you never imagined. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. SA Female

I worked with Rachel for some eight months and found it to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Rachel's playful and visual style worked brilliantly as a tool for me to better understand my own thought processes and her relaxed, lighthearted approach to conversation put me at ease and made my problems feel less like something to be ashamed of and more like just another part of me that I could get control of.

I would not hesitate to recommend Rachel to anybody and feel reassured by the fact that, despite my time with her being complete for now, she remains available to me should I ever need to talk again in the future. MS Male late 20s

Rachel helped me when I very much needed someone to talk to, she made me feel very comfortable, it was like chatting to an old friend. She listened without interruption, offered kind but firm advice, through her I saw different ways of direction.

Rachel supported me through a time where the light at the end of the tunnel had been turned off, she helped me see that it could be turned back on again. Life is back on track, thank you Rachel. GW female early 60s
