About me

As a highly experienced Clinical Psychologist, I offer a range of psychological therapies (including CBT, EMDR, ACT, Mindfulness, Integrative therapy). We will work together to explore your difficulties, understand your values and goals and plan a treatment to support you in living a full, rich and meaningful life.

I am experienced in working with adults (age 16+) for short or long term individual psychological therapy to address specific problems or more complex difficulties. I can also offer assessment and consultation sessions for adults together with their partners / family / carers.

I have experience in working with people who are new to psychological therapy and those who  have previously tried counselling and psychological therapy but continue to struggle with their difficulties. I can also offer supportive work to help people improve their ability to manage their difficulties and enhance their wellbeing. Sessions may also be helpful for people who feel 'stuck', or would like support in coming to terms with difficult life events, managing stress, building confidence, help in achieving life goals or wanting to change unfulfilling aspects of their lives. In all my work, I endeavor to provide a safe, accessible, approachable, caring, trustworthy, supportive, empowering and effective service.

I am also an experienced clinical supervisor offering supervision and support to other therapists and health professionals.

More information about how I work and what to expect can be found on my website: www.peacefulmindpsychologykent.co.uk

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) and am an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered with the BPS, Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Information Commissioners Office (ICO). I have regular clinical supervision and undertake continuous professional development

I have 10 years of experience as a Clinical Psychologist in NHS adult mental health including work in community, inpatient rehabilitation, inpatient acute, forensic and prison settings. As part of this, I have experience of working with a wide range of issues and with people suffering with mild through to complex and long-term difficulties. I have seven years of experience of offering regular clinical supervision to other staff within the NHS (Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists, CBT for psychosis psychological practitioners, Trainee Clinical Psychologists and Doctoral Trainee Counselling Psychologists). I also have broad experience of teaching and training. Prior to qualification as a Clinical Psychologist I had nine years of experience in health and social care, health and wellbeing, teaching, training and research.

Fees

Fees for a standard length session range from £75-100. Sessions are charged according to the length and type of appointment e.g. with a choice of brief 30 min sessions, 60 min standard length sessions or 90 min extended sessions; off peak times of 9-3 which are charged at the low end of the scale or peak times 3-7pm which are charged at the high end of the scale. There is no charge for brief telephone or email contact between sessions where it relates to booking or re-arranging appointments, and brief queries, updates or clarifications.

If your sessions are to be covered by health insurance I am a registered provider with a number of private health insurers (BUPA, Aviva, WPA, AXA-PPP)

Concessions:  Where there is availability and at my discretion, a couple of my appointment slots per week may be offered at a lower cost (e.g. for students / those on a lower income / those who might otherwise not be able to have the sessions that they need). Feel free to ask me more about this

Home visits and Outreach: Psychological therapy sessions away from the normal clinic site are charged at the same rate, but a fee for travel time may apply depending on the distance (home and outreach appointments are offered in situations where someone finds it very difficult to get to the clinic and the alternative venue or home visit is an appropriately safe environment for both client and therapist).

Cancellations: cancelling or changing appointment times is free of charge if adequate notice is given however, I regret that where an appointment is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice the full fee for the session is charged.

Further information

The aim of an initial appointment is to talk about any difficulties you are having, how they affect you, how they developed and find out more about you as a person, how you want to live and what you want to achieve. We will work to understand your difficulties and situation and think about ways forward that suit you as a person and your situation. We will consider what type of therapy would best match this and if this is not something I can provide then I can make some suggestions as to your next steps or other suitable therapists.  If you want to bring someone with you to accompany you to the session then that is fine. There is no obligation to have this treatment with me nor continue the sessions if you don't feel confident or happy with this. Clients can withdraw from assessment or treatment at any time. Also, I will only recommend further sessions if these are likely to be of benefit to you.

If you have further questions or would like a free brief discussion prior to booking an appointment feel free to call or email me.
