Are you feeling overwhelmed by the stresses of life? It can be a great relief to share your feelings with someone who is trained to listen, and help you find your way through.
I work with clients suffering from a variety of symptoms including relationship issues, anxiety, family issues, depression, panic disorder, phobias and other general life stresses such as bereavement, and low self-worth. I also works with people suffering from disordered eating, in particular with compulsive over eating (bingeing) and binge eating disorder (BED).
Having been a teacher, and since then working for youth counselling projects, I now work with people of all ages. So if you feel your child would benefit from talking to me, I am experienced in enabling children to 'open up' when they feel ready, using for example play therapy and creative exercises.
I offer counselling in a safe and confidential setting - this is your chance to work through your thoughts and feelings with a qualified and experienced professional counsellor, without being judged or criticised. Counselling is a process that involves talking about issues or problems that are causing you distress. It involves spending time exploring specific difficulties, such as low-mood or anxiety, to understand why you are feeling like this and what might help make things more positive in your future. It is a supportive process designed to help you to be in control, and gain confidence in your ability to have a brighter life.
My main mode of counselling is based on Gestalt therapy, incorporating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. These methods work well alongside each other, as the ’here and now’ nature of Gestalt therapy allows us to explore deeply our ’story’ and needs; the Cognitive behavioural element enables you to actively continue your therapeutic process in between sessions.
Disordered Eating: My work with disordered eating is based on The National Centre for Eating Disorder’s research and training: my specialism is working with people suffering from compulsive overeating, and bingeing.

Experience: I have worked for various organisations in Hampshire and London, including youth counselling, couples counselling, Women's Aid, and general counselling for all ages and issues. I have been working in private practice for 6 years.
Having been a school teacher and course facilitator in the past, I now facilitate groups such as mindfulness workshops, and Sidestep workshops where we practice mindfulness/meditation, relaxation techniques and how to access your creative mind.

I offer help and guidance in person or over the phone or computer, as you prefer. I will assist you with setting specific targets in your life, overcoming life's roadblocks, and making positive progress as you deal with problems in your life. Group work: I am happy to discuss group work to meet your organisation's training needs, including schools, colleges and businesses. In particular, I work with public contact awareness, self esteem, relaxation/mindfulness, and team building exercises.

A relaxation class starting in January 2017:
SIDE STEP -An introduction to Relaxation and Mindfulness; learn simple and effective ways to de-stress; You are invited to join this six week introduction to relaxation and mindfulness, on Wednesday mornings starting on January 4th 2017, 10am – 11am. Run by Rachel Baylis (a fully-qualified Gestalt counsellor and teacher) allow yourself some time to step aside from the hustle and bustle of your life, and learn effective ways to develop new relaxation techniques and practice mindfulness. Re-balance yourself, and experience stillness.
You will be given postcard-sized instructions each week to take home so that you can begin to make this a regular practice in your daily life - some of these methods can even be used when other people are with you, without anyone realising that you are giving yourself space.
Venue: near Ealing Green, near Ealing Studios – details will be provided when you make your booking.
Cost: £75 for six week course - booking essential
