7 Westland Drive
I am an accredited Core Process psychotherapist, which has a mindfulness-based orientation. I always try to work with clients in ways which are therapeutically helpful, drawing at times from other models and theories.
I would usually focus on what is happening in the body, in present-time, as a way of accessing what needs to be seen and healed. However, inquiry into early-life experience, trauma and loss, as well as what brings vitality and joyfulness, is very much part of the way I work. I have a deep respect for the clients' own pace, and a need for safety and trust in the therapeutic relationship and process.
Alongside my private practice, I work at a Centre which provides a free counselling service, and greatly enjoy shared learning from colleagues and peers with different training back grounds and experience, and believe that my own work benefits greatly from an openess to on-going reflection and questioning. I believe that there should always be room in therapy for joy and humour.
Core Process is usually a longer-term in-depth therapy, but this varies a great deal from individual to individual. Initially I recommend weekly sessions, which can be renegotiated depending on need.
My professional background is in Social Work, from which my interest in psychotherapy developed. I worked for over 30 years with individuals, groups and families and undertook a lot of additional training including autism/Aspergers awareness, mental health, deprivation and oppression, and sexual abuse.
I am supported and inspired in my life by the wonders and beauty of walking in the Scottish wilderness and hills, star-gazing, cycling, yoga, meditation (I have sat with a Zen Buddhist group for over 20 years), and the pleasure of relaxing in the company of friends old and new.
I have two grown-up daughters in whom I delight.
I work from home, and am willing to negotiate charges for those are financially constrained.

My first professional training was in Social Work. I also trained in therapeutic massage and as a yoga teacher.
