About me

Serendipity. Consortium  OTherapy  Training  Supervision  (S.C.O.T.T.S)

Sometimes it can feel difficult to take the first step to contact a therapist. Perhaps you have been trying to make sense of something that has happened in your life for a while, or perhaps something has recently happened that has created a whole range of thoughts and feelings which have become confusing. You might not believe it right now but you are actually the expert on your own life. My role is to gently facilitate your journey of self discovery where you experience a more integrated sense of who you are. This will be done in a safe, calm and confidential space where you will experience an open warm and non-judgemental response from me.

I am an integrative and creative therapist with 24 years post qualifying experience. I am also a fully qualified EMDR therapist. I have worked within the statutory, voluntary and private sector. Prior to this I was a Social Worker working in a wide range of different fields including Child & Adolescent Mental Health, Paediatrics, Maternity (pre and post birth), Adoption, Fostering and Disability.

I have practised within childcare systems and worked systemically to support the network of professionals around the child. I can facilitate therapeutic reflective groups for foster parents and adoptive parents helping them to understand the challenges of re-parenting a child with attachment difficulties. I have extensive experience of parent / child work and offer individual or group consultations to carers and staff in other professions including Social Work, Health and Education. I have significant experience of working with children and adults across the life cycle on a wide range of different issues including trauma and loss. I have trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) to help support adults and children manage their experiences of trauma and support their recovery.

I am interested in working with the whole person and my training and experience has enabled me to develop a style of work which focusses on the unconscious relationship patterns that may have evolved from childhood and how these affect you in the present. As an integrative therapist I draw on a range of different approaches to help me understand the uniqueness of your situation and your experience. I will tailor make my approach to fit with what feels right for you and at a pace that is appropriate for you.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
