About us

Our Counselling Service:

Based in Leeds city centre, our award winning service has been offering face to face or online counselling support for over 8 years.

Our counsellors are all appropriately qualified, insured and police checked.  They are also all members of the professional body BACP.

Counselling gives you the opportunity to talk about issues effecting your life in a safe and confidential environment.

Our counsellors will listen to you and help you to work through any problems or difficulties that you may have. They are here to help you understand how past experiences may be effecting your life today.

The type of counselling that we offer is person-centred and non-directive.

This means that the counsellor will not tell you what to do. They will not present you with a course of action to take. Instead they will provide you with a non-judgemental, confidential setting and guide you as you explore your issues and concerns.

We see clients with a wide range of issues including: anxiety, depression, phobias, family issues, childhood trauma, relationship breakdown and stress.

We’re a charity…

Phoenix Health and Wellbeing is a registered Charity (1154273) that was set up in 2013 with the aim of providing support to local people who have chronic mental, physical & emotional health issues and low incomes.

We are proud to report that each year we offer support to 400+ local people who are referred to us by medical and healthcare professionals. These individuals could not normally afford the support we offer them. They come along with conditions ranging from depression and anxiety to more physical conditions such as chronic pain, Parkinson’s disease or forms of cancer. They can have a range of complex needs and many experience low self-esteem, anxiety and social isolation.

… and a social enterprise

Our founder Gill Trevor and the original Board of Trustees were keen for the organisation to be financially self-sufficient. To achieve this we set up a social enterprise to run alongside the charity.

We’re here to help you feel good

We understand that no two people are the same. Even if we experience a similar situation to someone else, how we respond to it is different and how it affects us is different. We believe that the best support recognises this, and that is why we offer a range of services including: massage, counselling, acupuncture & workplace wellbeing.

Our team of therapists, counsellors and acupuncturists are highly experienced and all share the same motivation: to help you feel good.

We support you, you support them

All proceeds from every massage, acupuncture or counselling session you have with us are directed to our charitable fund. Local businesses using our workplace wellbeing services are also helping to fund our charitable work.

For every £10 that you spend or donate, about £4 goes towards our charitable work.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
