About me

Depression, anxiety and isolation can prevent us from living life as fully or as happily as we wish. I am based in the Bishopston/Horfield area and I offer counselling to people who need some help to work through their difficulties within a sensitive and confidential relationship.

I am a qualified counsellor with an MSc in Counselling which incorporates the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling. I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I work in accordance with the BACP code of ethics. My background is in Psychology, Counselling and Special Education.

Upon completing my degree in Psychology I spent three years living and working as a therapist in a residential therapeutic community for young people with emotional difficulties. This experience underpins my subsequent 25 year commitment to working with adults and young people with differing needs and from diverse backgrounds. I have been a counsellor in a community based counselling service, a registered charity and in private practice

I offer short or longer term counselling, with daytime and evening appointments.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • MSc in Counselling (University of Bristol) - incorporating a counselling diploma
  • MEd in Psychology and Special Education (Dist.)
  • BA Hons Psychology

In addition to my private practice I currently work with students and staff in Further and Higher Education.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
