About me

I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural and EMDR Therapist and an accredited member of the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). The BABCP is the leading organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. I provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR Therapy for individuals across the Fylde Coast and all surrounding areas. CBT is an evidenced based 'Talking Therapy' which has been proven to be effective in treating a wide range of mental health difficulties. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommends and endorses CBT for the treatment of a number of disorders including; depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic and trauma (PTSD). Therapy is provided either by face to face sessions (within a private and confidential clinic), video call (Zoom/Skype) and telephone consultations.

I have been working within the field of counselling and psychotherapy for the past 20 years. During this time I have worked within the NHS, private sector services and private practice.

I currently work in private practice treating and supporting clients presenting with mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety and low self-esteem alongside more complex presentations such as bi-polar (manic depression), schizophrenia, substance misuse and pain management. My private practice offers Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and EMDR Therapy treating a wide range of mental health disorders including; depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic, trauma (PTSD), phobias, low self-esteem and pain management.

Special Interests:
While I have gained the knowledge and developed the necessary skills and experience needed in treating all disorders I do have a special interest in the treatment of depression, low self-esteem and anxiety.

My approach to therapy & how I work:

What is CBT?
CBT identifies Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviours as cogs which are responsible for the development and maintenance of our difficulties, such as depression and anxiety. How we think about things has a direct effect on how we feel and behave. When our thoughts become troublesome we often change our behaviour to help cope with how we feel. This in turn encourages the development and maintenance of debilitating symptoms such as anxiety and depression.

How does CBT work?
Using evidenced-based treatment protocols, CBT seeks to break down these cycles of destructive thoughts and behaviours while supporting you to adopt alternative and more healthier ways of thinking and behaving, thus reducing symptoms while improving health and wellbeing.

What you can expect..
CBT places great emphasis on therapy being a 'collaboration' between client and therapist. We will work together to identify symptoms, disorders, maintaining factors and appropriate treatment interventions to help improve both mental and physical wellbeing. There is an expectation that any identified learning opportunities during session are tested out and reflected on outside of therapy as this learning will provide focus for treatment direction.

How many sessions will you need..
This depends on the severity of difficulties brought to therapy as well as your level of engagement during and outside of therapy. Each disorder has a recommended number of treatment sessions, but generally the number of sessions can be between 8 and 20.
