About me

If you have reached this site then you are likely to be thinking seriously about counselling or a professional therapeutic intervention in your life.

The language we use as counsellors describing techniques or styles may seem strange and the array of qualifications confusing. All counsellors wish to be sincere, honest, non-judgemental and ethical, offering confidentiality and professionalism at all times; they understand that people wishing to be counselled want to be able to trust the process and the person to whom they are disclosing very personal and sensitive information in a safe environment.

I take the counselling relationship, ethics and confidentiality very seriously and I offer a safe and professional service.

My Clients:

I see many people, with many different stories to tell about their lives and experiences, encompassing a wide range of issues and in some cases ‘problems’. These may be stories they can only divulge to a kind stranger who will not judge them and who they can have confidence and trust in.
I see clients who are experiencing communication problems, difficulty managing feelings, low mood and some with issues around esteem and family experiences. These may be helped by helping them to relate better to their experiences and emotions.

I see others who have stress, anxieties, anger and traumas they are experiencing or recovering from (physical and mental). They may have issues of connecting with their own emotions. They may also experience intrusive thoughts, compulsive and impulsive behaviours and generalised feelings that are making them unhappy. Here they may be seeking help to understand how they are making sense currently of situations and how changes may improve current difficulties. They may just want to tell somebody how they feel without fear of judgement.

I see people who are experiencing the effects of dependencies where misuse of substances has now begun to affect their day to day lives and relationships or inappropriate repetitive patterns of behaviour are having a similar impact. Here it is helpful establishing a pattern towards change and undertaking change. Also dealing with the thoughts of relapse and management of thoughts , beliefs and emotions in a new ‘non-dependent’ existence and daily life

I also see some clients are seeking help with situational or work problems and issues that are helped by a coaching and motivational style. Here they may need help with re-negotiating innate skills to a new problem solving situation or environment.

How I Work:

In addition to my private practice which is a mix of referrals from organisations, private recommendations and counselling students undertaking therapeutic interventions ( CPD), I also undertake voluntary work. Client organisations include Cardiff Mind with whom I have a valued volunteer relationship and also ADREF Merthyr, The Wallich and CRI Drug Aid Merthyr.
