My name is Peter and I work in the Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and London regions. I am a qualified and fully insured counsellor.
I am essentially a Person Centred Counsellor, but have knowledge of other therapies and therefore incorporate them into my therapy when I feel they will help. These include psychodynamic, gestalt and transactional analysis.
I maintain a policy of strict confidentiality and follow the ethical framework of good practice of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy), of which I am a member.

Issues I work with
I have a high success rate of dealing with problems resulting from low self esteem/confidence, anxiety, depression, stress, anger, abuse, relationship issues, people going through transitionary periods, trauma and bereavement. Therefore if your finding it difficult coping, or struggling with your feelings, behavior or your thinking is just going around in circles, get in touch with me.
I feel talking about your experiences can help you release painful feelings and help you find better ways of managing situations you find difficult. By understanding events that shape your life you can overcome specific problems, eg lack of confidence. It may simply allow you to live a happier life.
I believe that we all require some extra help at some time in our lives, and I believe a counsellor can be an amazing resource to tap into and enable you to focus on specific problems/Issues, or help you better manage your life and the challenges that you face.
How I work
I receive great feedback from my clients and I believe that's because I have a strong understanding of human nature and have developed greater emotional intelligence, self-awareness and have a desire to constantly learn more to help my clients. Most importantly, I have an innate passion for helping people find solutions to their own problems so that they can empower themselves so that they can be as happy and successful as possible. My ability to "be really with you" during the counselling, and really listening and noticing things about you and your needs, means that I can provide both the emotional and psychological support and the direction to help you achieve your aims/goals and better understanding of what's going on for you, by bringing more clarity to what's happening. Our sessions are totally confidential and my approach is entirely non-judgemental. The only things I expect from you are honesty and the desire to work hard, sometimes outside your comfort zone which is where a lot of personal development really takes place. I help clients holistically with their challenges and objectives. My approach is to achieve what you want.
Where I have worked.
For many years I have worked in the voluntary sector where I have done lots of counselling work for numerous agencies successfully bringing together my training, experience and qualifications to assist those helping them to manage their emotional distress/issues and living a healthier life. For me it's always about the client, and if you are committed to your personal development, I believe we can achieve much progress.
My theoretical approach.
Through using my range of counselling experience and teachings I aim to bring about self-awareness, clarity, balance, direction and ultimately increased satisfaction with your life. I am a proponent of the Carl Rogers and the Person Centred way of Counselling. His ideas of your movement to empowering yourself and achieving the "Good Life". Therefore my role is to help bring you to that place where you feel emotionally and psychologically improved/better, being more resilient and in control, and thus enabling you to empower yourself.
My aims as a counsellor is to help you have the life you want by helping you define and manage issues/change. This can include such things as building your confidence, re-assessing your life, reducing stress or just creating a healthier lifestyle. My fees are £40 per session.
I also do a reduced rate for anyone unemployed, in receipt of low pay or from being a student.
I have a current enhanced DBS certificate and I am fully insured.
I also work as a mentor and a life coach.
I usually do weekly sessions but also do fortnightly sessions. Whatever your requirements are.
