About me

I offer Counselling in Selby town centre, where I have worked for many years and have become established within the local community. I work with Adults.  In addition to face to face sessions I offer SKYPE and telephone sessions.

I have many years experience working with a wide range of issues and I am a Registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Pyschotherapy (BACP).

You are an individual and I will work with you in a way that reflects that individuality. I am an Integrative Counsellor, this means that I will draw on a number of approaches and techniques in my work with you.

Whichever way I work, the most important thing is that I will work hard to create a good therapeutic relationship between us. I will provide warmth and empathy together with a safe space where confidentiality is maintained and you will have the opportunity to work with whatever is troubling you without fear of judgement.

At our first meeting we will discuss what you hope to achieve from counselling and we will agree a way forward together. You may find that just a few sessions are all you need or you may have issues that you wish to look at in more depth.

If you are struggling  to decide I will be happy to talk to you without any pressure or obligation; to help you figure out if this is the right time for you and if I am someone you feel you could work with.

In addition to working with adults in many settings my experience extends to many counselling charities including positions as Service Manager at York Women's Counselling, Operations Manager at RELATE and Head of Childrens' Services at Community Counselling in Malton.

I also currently work as a counsellor for NHS England and recently as Clinical Supervisor at York St John Universtiy. Prior to becoming a Counsellor I worked in Social Care for many years.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have a particular interest in the individuals Emotional response to illness - being told you have a life altering/life threatening illness can be difficult to cope with. Talking to someone who understands can help to bring perspective and also help you with coping strategies.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I work from a first floor room which has lift access. There are also ramps into the building for those with limited mobility and for wheelchair access. The building has toilets for those with additional needs.
