I am a qualified, experienced counsellor who has been working with a huge variety of clients over 17 years. I am a warm empathetic person who can create a safe non-judgemental space where you can do the exploration you need. I have many years of experience and have worked with people from many different ethnic backgrounds, different ages, social classes, educational achievements, and sexual orientations.
I worked originally in education before I trained as a counsellor in the 90s and have always been interested in helping people develop and find solutions to problems. Over many years of experience I have worked in different contexts including: education, life-threatening illness (cancer), workplace employee assisted counselling provision, long-term mental health conditions and private practice.
I am interested in having a conversation with clients to find out how they want to use our time together. Safety and confidentiality are paramount so If we agree, after an initial session to work together, we might contract to meet for six weeks and then review where we are and what the client wants to do. It might be enough to help the person get some clarity about their situation or their issue. Or they may chooses to continue on a weekly basis in a more open-ended way.
I can offer both short-term and longer term working and would initially suggest a 6 week contract to start with most clients. I have worked with many different issues including:
- life-threatening illness
- relationship issues
- family problems
- identity issues
- and work problems.
What to expect
You would expect to speak over the phone to make an initial appointment. In the initial session you would be asked what brought you to the counselling session and what you are wanting to achieve. You would have a chance to talk about your situation in confidence to ascertain what might be possible in our work together.
I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space in which people can identify their problem areas and work to find solutions together. I have premises opposite Richmond station and very near to Twickenham station where I work at different times in the week.
I have always known about the importance of being listened to both for myself and for others. I believe that in safe, confidential relationships we can begin to solve some of the problems which we experience in life. I think we need to feel that the person we are speaking to has some understanding and this can help us see things from different angles and get some insight into how we might be getting in our own way.
Why choose me?
I have a well-developed sense of humour, a caring nature and an understanding of how the pressures of modern life can impact on how we feel. I thoroughly enjoy working with people and finding out about individual stories, identifying resources and helping people find their way through difficult times.
Is Counselling Right For You?
Counselling might be right for you if you feel you need a helping hand in working through your problems
Sometimes we feel we don't want to burden our family or friends, or that they are too involved to see clearly what the issues are. You would need to be prepared to attend for sessions regularly and to talk about what is going on inside but at your own pace and in your own way. There is no right or wrong way to do counselling.
Training, qualifications & experience
Diploma in Person-Centred counselling from the Metanoia Institute.
I am a Registered Accredited Member with the BACP.
Additional training in:
Systemic and Family Therapy
I continue to develop my work attending workshops on neuroscience, attachment, trauma, depression, anxiety and many other issues.
I have worked in many contexts apart from private practice: education, health, mental health issues, work-related Employee Assistance programmes and am currently employed as the Senior Counsellor at Paul's Cancer Support Centre, near Clapham Junction in south central London.
As an experienced counsellor, I also offer supervision to other counsellors both in training and qualified and I see this as an opportunity to support and help develop the skills of others working in the field.
