How can counselling help me?
Most of us have times in our lives when we find it difficult to cope and sometimes we benefit from seeking professional help, therefore I offer short or long term counselling according to your individual needs and wishes. Some people like to look at how they have got to where they are, others like practical strategies and ideas to manage their current situation, and some people like a mix of these which is fine, we will focus on whatever works for you. Sometimes though you are not even sure what is troubling you or what you need, but you know you currently feel sad and unhappy and you would like this to be different.
In any event though, you are reading this because you are currently seeking a supportive environment that can help you through your current circumstances, as it is likely that you are experiencing painful or difficult feelings or perhaps have become aware of repeated patterns of behaviour in your life or recurrent troubled relationships that are causing you to feel distressed. Left unaddressed, these feelings can become suppressed, and can express themselves in ways that can leave us feeling more confused and hurt, so exploring this in a safe environment can help in finding a better way forward.
Maybe you have suffered a trauma or bereavement and are finding it difficult to cope. Perhaps at times you are finding it a struggle to survive day to day. Maybe life just seems too hard and unfair. Maybe you and your partner are not getting on. Perhaps the children are causing anguish, and you are finding it difficult to keep control of your emotions, or even to understand them at times.
Whatever is causing you to feel as you do, sometimes it feels difficult to talk about our problems to our friends and family in tough times, as they are often unable to provide an objective point of view. At these times it can help to have support from someone who is impartial. Counselling offers this opportunity, and will focus on you without being judgemental, which can lead to discovering things about yourself that you may have been unaware of, or can explore ways of finding a better understanding of your circumstances that can help you feel more confident in making changes that are more helpful to you.
Counselling sessions provide time and space to talk about whatever is causing you distress in a way that is rarely possible with people we know well. Sessions are normally weekly, and last for 50 minutes, but we would have an initial meeting so that you can decide for yourself if counselling with me is going to be right for you. You do not need to get a Doctor’s referral, you can get in touch with me directly to make an arrangement for an initial appointment which is free of charge.
I work with people who’s personal journey is their primary focus, and wish to connect with their true self as part of their personal or professional development.

I am BACP Accredited and Registered which means my training and ethical practice is to a high and regulated standard. You can find out more about this by going to www.bacp.co.uk.
My experience is considerable (11 years) working in brief therapy (NHS GP referral work), and I have also provided longer term work where appropriate. I have undergone additional training to work more effectively with anyone experiencing depression, which can be for any number of reasons. In addition, I am able to work effectively with anxiety, post natal depression, bereavement and loss, relationship issues, stress, work related stress, trauma, low self- esteem and confidence issues.
My approach to Counselling is underpinned by effective evidence-based practice, that integrates a person centred/relational perspective with cognitive behavioural therapy skills (CBT).
I am also trained in a brief intervention (6 sessions) of couples counselling in order to enable couples to find more beneficial ways of communicating with each other in order to problem solve relationship difficulties together.
I also provide Counselling Supervision to those qualified (not currently taking those currently in training).

I offer both daytime and evening appointments and my first appointment is free of charge (50 minutes), so we may see if we are suitable for each other to work together. On this occasion, I may ask more questions than I would normally so that I can get an idea of how best I can help, but it is also a chance for you to ask any questions you may have too.
My usual counselling fee thereafter is £40 per session (50 minutes) for individual work, and £50.00 per session (50 minutes) for couples.
For those wishing to engage in Supervision my fee is £40.00 per hour or £60 for 1.5 hours also with an initial consultation session free of charge (50 minutes).
