I am a qualified Person Centred Counsellor (BA hons) and I believe my role as a counsellor is to support you on your journey of self discovery. I believe the key to counselling is to build and maintain a relationship where you as the client should feel comfortable to explore whatever you bring to counselling; whether you are looking for counselling for bereavement, depression, anxiety, low self esteem, relationship difficulties, self- understanding or to explore any number of lives stressors.
I feel strongly that counselling should be accessible for all and as such I offer affordable counselling to individuals; and offer discounted rates for students, those of you on low income or in receipt of benefits.
I feel that each of us are unique, and as such we relate to lives stressors in different ways. I am open to exploring with you your feelings or thoughts whatever they may be. Each session is led by you as the client and will focus on what you bring to counselling on the particular day. I value individuality and therefore will adapt to meet your individual needs.
What is Person Centred Therapy?
Person-Centred Therapy is a client led approach which essentially means counselling will focus on what you bring to counselling on the particular day. It is based on the premise that you as the client are the best expert on your own life rather than the therapist. Person-Centred Therapy is grounded in the idea that each individual has within themselves the inner resources and capacity to grow and develop as a person. My role as a therapist will be to walk alongside side you and support you whilst you learn to recognise and develop a growing trust in your inner resources for self-healing, growth and personal development.
What can you expect from me?
You can expect me to provide a confidential and professional service in accordance with The BACP’s (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) Ethical Framework for Counselling Professions. I engage in regular supervision with a supervisor I regard highly and meet the guidelines as laid out by the BACP. I am passionate about the benefits of counselling and often engage in CPD (Continuing Professional Development) in order to enhance my knowledge and increase my understanding; this also helps me to keep up with advances in the field.
I aim to provide counselling in a relaxed and comfortable environment where you are free from judgment and greeted with a person open to joining you on your journey of self exploration and understanding. I feel that a trusting environment is essential in counselling and you should expect what you say in the counselling room to be treated as confidential. I feel confidentiality and trust are key components towards building a good therapeutic relationship, where you as a client should expect to feel safe to explore your thoughts and feelings.
