About me

At times we all have to confront the parts of the human experience that we find challenging.

We may feel a combination of fear, dread, loss, regret, resentment, anger, guilt, and shame.

Everyone at times struggles with- confidence, anxiety, depression and lack of direction or focus.

Sometimes we may get stuck with any of these, and feel paralyzed by the fear of what to do next. Or we may be in denial or going round in circles.

I'm passionate about helping people to heal their past and find purpose and meaning in their personal & professional lives.

This begins with taking a look at your current circumstances and what brought you here. As well as exploring your past and how you feel about it now.

In my work I experience every individual as unique and special in their own way, my integrative counselling & embodiment coaching training reflects this.

The way we typically design a working agreement is by formally assessing your current situation, deciding together a focus of the work, which is often unresolved issues with yourself and possibly others in your life. Then once we decide to work through these issues so that we can process the unresolved emotions. we can then replace any unhelpful underlying beliefs and barriers with new more empowering ways of seeing things. We then have the opportunity to come to greater self-acceptance of who we are and what brought us here.

We can then focus our attention on what we do day to day and consider what activities are beneficial and which as not serving you.

Many people I've treated, like most of us at times feel a combination of; frustration, anxiety and depression about areas of their work and personal life. Many of us have underachieved potential that remains stuck in our cells as latent energy. It is likely your body is trying to communicate to you through your subconscious in some way, probably as a discomfort, like a sort of warning light trying to get your attention.

A lot of the clients I work with find that after addressing the emotional blockages from their past, and committing to pursuing interests and activities that give them meaning and purpose, they then start to feel a bit better. By that I mean they feel calmer more positive and more in control again.

Some of the ways we decide what might be good to try is by examining your physical and emotional patterns of behaviour in your daily life.

Your breathing patterns and posture, the way you talk and walk. And then within that, looking at how you go about your day. Most of us do this unconsciously at least half the time.

For example- we might consider your communication style and then look at the pros and cons of your approach.

Another example- we could look at whether you are someone who always makes plans that you keep or whether you are making choices more spontaneously. What might be the advantages and disadvantages of either approach?

Either way, we can practice making adjustments to bring you more balance and choice into our life.

Whatever we would like to develop more or less of, we can work on a plan and strategy that will involve trying new and interesting things that you can learn and grow through the experience.

Please send me an email or phone if you would like to discuss having a free online assessment for a one to one counselling or coaching session or workshop.

Training, qualifications & experience

My main training was through an integrative BACP accredited advanced diploma at the Centre for Personal & Professional Development in North London. I chose this type of training because I believe that different aspects of a wide spectrum of theories can apply to any given situation. In other words, not trying to make a person fit into our training modality, regardless of whether it is applicable to them.

I have worked with a wide diversity of client groups from many different cultures and backgrounds, and I have experience with many different issues, and a capacity to be with the most difficult of feelings as well as help find realistic and achievable solutions.

More specifically, many of the clients I have treated have sought help around work place stress as well as anxiety and depression through burnout and inbalances in their professional and personal lives.
I have written more about this on my website.

I have gained my experience within NHS Primary Care, as well as with young people in schools via the YMCA, and I also have extensive experience in Counselling agencies such as the As You Are centre in Southwick, as well as running a busy private practice.

I also find looking at what we are experiencing in our bodies can have an invaluable amount of useful information for us to work with, helping you to find what you need to feel better.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Short term contracts - Solution/Goal Focused Therapy ( SMART) - sometimes we encounter a dilemma in life that only requires an external point of reference for a brief intervention whilst we adjust to the change in feelings or behaviour.
Part of working this way involves experiencing feeling heard and understood, whilst implementing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) tools to reality test the way we are viewing things.

Brief Psychotherapy & Counselling -

At times, perhaps for practical reasons, we are only be able to work so much on a specific issue, we may just need to feel a bit more able to cope rather than completely solve a problem, or there may be something we have not felt able to share or process that we may benefit from spending some time working through.

- Where achievable we might agree on around twelve 50 minute sessions.

Open-ended contracts -
Integrative psychoodynamic/humamistic therapy

Our primary experiences with our care givers shape the way we engage with the world for the rest of our lives. In an open ended contract we can explore how the past is influencing us in the present, through developing a relationship based on trust, consistency and empathy, whilst working at a pace with which you feel comfortable. During this process we can uncover unconscious drives and defense mechanisms that have become parts of our life script.

- Open ended contract work is usually most suitable for issues that have been with us for most of our lives.

- Where possible we will agree to between 6- 12 sessions  in our initial contract and review your progress as we go along.
