Psychosynthesis is a mind, body and spirit model of psychotherapy that looks at the whole person in therapy. Concerned with the realisation of individual potential, and harmonisation of all elements of the personality, it is unique in that it looks beyond what is being presented by the client to what positive element is trying to emerge.
It was conceived by the Italian psychiatrist Roberto Assagioli (1888 - 1974), who held a unified conception of human development and created an organised system of techniques to be applied in the fields of therapy, education and medicine.
Among the methods used are creative visualisation, free drawing, the training of the will, physical expression, writing, subpersonalities and disidentification, meditation, interpersonal and group work.
