About me

I have 20 years of experience as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist. During this time, I have supported clients from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances in seeking solutions to a wide range of issues, challenges and forms of distress.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic crisis and the requirement for social distancing and self-isolation, I have moved my practice online, offering therapy by video conferencing via Zoom, or by telephone. This means you can fully benefit from psychological and emotional support from a place of your choosing. The conversion to an on-screen format is supported and recommended by the relevant professional bodies and other providers in the mental health field. I have received extensive additional training to ensure that the quality and therapeutic presence of on-line sessions are on par with the experience of face-to-face sessions.

Sessions can be offered weekly, through Counselling (shorter-term), Psychotherapy (longer-term); EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), CRM (Comprehensive Resourcing Model) and other trauma-informed approaches that can be integrated to either of the two main modalities, if considered appropriate.

If you would like to ask me any questions or book a session with me, then please either call me on 07989 194435 or click here to send me an email.

Training, qualifications & experience

PG Diploma in Integrative Psychosynthesis Counselling & Psychotherapy (2001), Re-Vision.

Full accreditation and registration as a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy of which Code of Ethics I uphold). My core qualifications are Integrative: (PG Diploma in Integrative Psychosynthesis Counselling); my philosophy inspires a stance that attunes finely to the client's unique needs; responds creatively and adaptively to the individual goals of therapy and gives access to an extended spectrum of clinical modalities (beyond the humanistic/transpersonal model originated in the transpersonal psychology of Roberto Azzagioli).

Over 20 years of practice, helping individuals transform their experience of self and others, recovering integrity and resilience: acquiring confidence and self-compassion and reaching out to their potential, being enabled and fully vitalised individuals.

Over 15 years of in-depth further training and professional development with experts in the field of Attachment, Neuropsychology, Trauma & Dissociation; encompassing the many variants within a spectrum of disruptions, disorders, dysfunctions: impacting on the many levels of the experience of self: the emotional and the mental/psychological levels of existence and what is understood now as the "psychosocioneurobiology" of the human experience.

To substantiate my further professional qualifications and expertise, I have undertaken additional professional development and am a member of organisations that advocate trauma-informed approaches, ESTD (European Society for Trauma & Dissociation) and its UK Network; EMDR UK & Ireland (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing), CRM (Comprehensive Resourcing Model)

Whilst building my independent psychotherapy practice, I tread a parallel career path in the complex and diverse world of big companies, international consulting, and global organisations, performing roles in finance, recruitment, and marketing; this provided a valuable ground for a rich and in-depth experience of the complexities, the drama, and challenges of the corporate world.  Immensely grateful for this knowledge asset, I believe to be best placed to respond to those who must navigate in this demanding environment.

I have provided a coaching response to such issues within an integrative perspective, as and when clients have required. This is in the understanding that the whole person needs the full attention from the therapist, on the one hand, and from the client and therapist combined, on the other hand; this collaborative approach is embedded in the Holistic Leadership Coaching model, now offered separately from psychotherapy

Coaching as a model for helping conversations has been around for many years - a close cousin to psychotherapy and counselling, it shares with these similar intentions and ethics but with a different narrative: with roots in sport and performance coaching, later expanded into further brands, Business Coaching, Executive Coaching and the ubiquitous Life Coaching. For brevity, if trying to elucidate which of the two is relevant to you, don't as this is a false differentiation or even antagonism. Holistic Leadership Coaching moves away from this apparent conflict and supports the whole person.*

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

How does Counselling & Psychotherapy help?

Many personal, every-day life or professional related problems can be helped through counselling (or psychotherapy). This is about making a positive choice to get the help that you need when you need. Don't wait until a problem has grown to become unmanageable - rather address the issues early, before they become entrenched.

Some examples:

  • Relationships and relational issues, problems in the couple;
  • Family system fractures and dysfunctions;
  • Bereavement, grief and other losses (including pets)
  • Psychosexual issues, gender and identity issues;
  • Substance abuse and other behavioural dependencies;
  • Eating disorders and body issues;
  • Depressive and anxious symptomology, including panic attacks, phobias and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder);
  • Various types of traumatic disorders: including PTSD, C-PTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and dissociative symptoms;
  • Childhood sexual abuse, domestic abuse;
  • Work-related issues and emotional distress in professional life.

What to expect of a therapeutic partnership

Foremost, the aim is to build a good rapport - a therapeutic alliance - where trust and authenticity help in engaging with issues that are sometimes delicate or painful:

  • by gradually exploring your thoughts and feelings;
  • by working cooperatively to find a resolution to the problem and helping you to look at situations from different points of view;
  • by paying attention to your developmental history, looking at important formative experiences that have contributed to your core beliefs and expectations;
  • by seeking to provide empathy and compassion and thus helping foster your own empathy and compassion towards the self and others;
  • by addressing together your (maladaptive) attempts at solving problems: involving attempts to avoid emotional pain (through addictions and impulsive behaviours etc);
  • by supporting you in facing situations that you have avoided in the past (both external situations and inner emotions), and in finding realistic adaptive solutions to alleviate life's problems.

Most importantly, in all of this, by tracking sensitively the timing and context of this unique journey. The map is provided but you are the traveller!
