About me

Welcome to my Integrative approach to therapy. After many years of studying and working in the field, I have found an Integrative approach to therapy is really helpful. An integration of different approaches embraces the uniqueness of every individual. I approach the therapeutic relationship with warmth, compassion and kindness. I will always do my best to ensure you feel safe and accepted no matter what you bring into your session. It is important for me to be genuine, open and honest as I always have your best interests at heart. This also means that I might need to challenge you however, I will always do this in a gentle and non-judgmental way.

I do believe there is always hope for change. Sometimes feeling the pain from the past is the way you heal the pain. One of my favourite sayings is "The pain you feel today is the strength you feel tomorrow" Ricky Feuntes 2013. Therapy can be a painful process however, I do believe that once the pain has been processed it can be liberating. It can help you enhance your life and reach your full potential. I do believe counselling can increase inner strength and resilience. My purpose in life is helping people and I do this with passion and dedication. I think this saying is very appropriate: "Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls, the most massive characters are seared with scars" Khalil Gibran. I do believe that nothing is insurmountable.

I work with a variety of issues such as:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Relationship issues
  • Depression
  • Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse
  • Developmental Trauma i.e a trauma experienced during childhood years
  • Eating disorders specifically bulimia, emotional and binge eating
  • Self-harm and Borderline Personality Disorder
  • Dissociative Identity Disorder (previously referred to as Multiple Personality Disorder)
  • Bereavement/Grief
  • Breast cancer patients
  • Infertility and miscarriages

I am currently only offering Skype sessions

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Masters in Integrative Counselling and a BSc (Hons) Psychology. My foundation certificate and Diploma is in Humanistic Integrative Counselling. This approach incorporates a variety of therapeutic orientations such as Humanism, Gestalt, Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Attachment theory and Transactional Analysis.

I have trained in Eating Disorders and Addictions. As I have gained experience as a therapist I have realised that at the heart of all Eating Disorders and Addictions, there is trauma. I have broadened my scope to learn about and understand trauma ie Developmental Trauma, PTSD, and complex PTSD. I am also interested in the Neurobiology of trauma. I have experience working with personality disorders like Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and Borderline Personality Disorder.

I believe the most fundamental part of all therapy is the therapeutic relationship. It is through the therapeutic relationship that the most healing occurs. The effectiveness of therapy is based on the therapeutic relationship rather than any specific therapeutic model. How people are in relationships is usually based on their experiences of their first relationship ie the primary caregiver. It is important to understand our first experiences of these relationships to understand how we are in our current relationships. I have also done numerous training courses in Attachment theory as this is vital when working with trauma.

I teach effective emotional regulation techniques based on neuroscience to help people manage their emotions more effectively.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
