Norma Kirwan MBACP (Accred) MA., PGDip (Counselling/Psychotherapy)
As an integrative therapist, I work with my clients in a flexible, holistic and collaborative way.I am one of relatively few qualified and experienced counsellors/therapists in the UK with specific training in the application of mindfulness to therapeutic work.
I offer you a safe, confidential and pleasant environment in which to explore and resolve the issues that bring you to therapy and I draw on a range of resources to meet your individual needs.
As a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I offer CBT from a Mindfulness perspective, Person-Centred Therapy and Solution Focused Short Therapy. I also offer one-to-one Mindfulness training and regularly offer group trainings in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
I offer EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), which is a fast-evolving treatment within the field of Energy Psychology and is a particularly helpful approach in working with deep seated emotional blockages and in resolving past trauma and PTSD, where talk alone is often not sufficient.
I now view the most difficult and painful times in my life as precious times, since they were the essential catalysts for change, for deepening self-awareness, for healing, for growth, for falling awake into my life.
I hope that when you come to work with me, it may prove to be so for you too.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a BACP registered and accredited counsellor and psychotherapist. My post-graduate training as an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist is cognitive-humanistic. I am a certified and experienced facilitator of Mindfulness Based Approaches (MBSR and MBCT) and a certified EFT practitioner.
I have worked in a range of settings and organisations, specialising in mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and trauma, bereavement and end of life care, and cancer care. In my private practice in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, I work with adults and young people for short, medium or long term counselling and psychotherapy, helping those who come to me to negotiate life's transitions and challenges. I organise and teach Mindfulness training courses (MBSR and MBCT) for small groups in Potters Bar and High Barnet.
My approach is humanistic, integrative and person-centred, with emphasis on building the therapeutic relationship and working with the client's inherent movement towards wholeness and well-being.
