About me

I offer face to face and Skypetherapy. I originally qualified with a BA (Hons) in Person Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy. Having had extensive additional training and experience I now describe myself as working in an integrative and holistic way which is a ‘whole person’ approach, considering all the factors that go into making you who you are. This way of working is known as 'The Reach Approach' and is so named because its about reaching your potential.  The Reach Approach is about sustainable solutions, in line with this for each new client I will pay for a tree to be planted and a certificate to that effect will be given to the client.

This integrative approach builds on the strong and supportive relationship we will first establish, a non-judgemental relationship of trust, empathy, support and genuine warmth. On the back of this relationship will then work to bring about real and lasting change to help you reach your full potential.  This way of working draws from a myriad of therapeutic approaches, modern science, including neuroscience, psychoneuroimmunology (PNI), quantum physics, epigenetics and ancient wisdoms and offers practical steps you can take and techniques you can apply, including mindfulness, that both research and experience has proven can help. It was this approach that both transformed me and inspired me to qualify as a practitioner myself.

I offer both short-term work, of generally between 8 to 12 sessions and longer term therapy.

The truth is we all need help from time to time. For some people life seems a constant struggle, for others difficulties ebb and flow.

You may be suffering, or have suffered from:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • relationship issues
  • stress
  • low self-esteem
  • loss of confidence, job / employment, independence, self
  • bereavement of a loved, or not so loved, one
  • anger
  • abuse or neglect
  • addictive behaviour
  • eating disorders
  • OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)

Whatever your story is I am here for you.

I would not say I specialise in any particular area, however I do seem to be getting more and more clients in the last couple of years who are sufferers of anxiety, often in conjunction with some other symptom of distress. I recognise that even coming through the door can be particularly challenging for some clients and there are a number of ways that I can help with getting to that point.

Here is what one client has said:

"Before attending counselling I was so nervous about the prospect of talking to somebody I didn’t know about the pain I was feeling. I was stuck in a spiral of negative thinking and couldn’t see a way out of it, In my eyes it was just how I was and I couldn’t imagine my life any other way. I was suffering with anxiety and low self esteem, without the confidence to tell anybody about it for the fear of being judged.

After taking counselling sessions with Nina, I can truly say that I now know I have the tools to prepare me with whatever comes my way. With her understanding nature and kind support I finally had the courage to deal with my insecurities and emotions. The worksheets and techniques really do work, a completely new approach to me in the beginning but one that is made everything clearer to me. The whole process has allowed me look at myself and life with a different perspective."

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

My aim is to empower individuals to live lives that are happy and fulfilling. Obviously I incur costs in providing therapy, however we do what we can to minimise these so as to accommodate as many of those as possible who wish to make the commitment to the process.

I therefore operate a flexible rate system that is based on conscience, clients determining their own rate.  Working in this way, with some clients paying more than the average, I am able to support other clients at the lower end of the scale who would not otherwise be able to afford counselling.  Experience has shown people respect this approach and therefore do not seek to exploit it. If you would like to talk about this I am happy to do so.

Sessions are weekly or fortnightly and typically 1 hour long (sometimes less for children, depending on age).
