At Cotman Counselling Practice I will offer you a warm welcome and a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space in which you can explore your feelings and emotions.
I believe everyone has the resources to solve their own issues, but sometimes one can become stuck in an unhelpful pattern.
I can sensitively facilitate the process of exploring and reflecting upon your life experiences, perceptions and self understanding and help you to make more positive and better informed choices.
As life can be full of unexpected twists and turns, we can sometimes feel that we are speedily being pushed in a wrong direction and at other times, just completely stuck.
You may be facing a crossroad in your life or feeling lost, uncertain, no longer sure who you are and what it is all about or perhaps there has been a loss in your life and you feel in need of some support. Maybe you are the one who is always helping others but never have time for yourself, setting yourself high expectations and feeling that you never seem to be reaching your goals.
My therapy sessions are conducted in a professional manner, yet relaxed and aiming to offer you a comfortable and safe environment to explore your strengths and gaining a better understanding of yourself without fear of being judged.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified and accredited Counsellor, a member of the National Counselling Society and following the code of ethics of the NCS and BACP.
I am fully insured and DBS checked. I attend regular supervision with an accredited supervisor and regular CPD training.
My background includes physiotherapy, where I learned to appreciate the importance and power of positive thinking, before I entered a career in business development.
Working in this environment I found myself counselling staff at all levels and decided to develop this further.
I have worked within a charitable counselling organisation and have a private practice.
I favour an integrative approach, meaning that I draw on the theoretical perspective and knowledge from different therapies such as Person Centred Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic Counselling.
Integrative therapy enables me to develop an approach which is individual to each client and their needs.
I have several years experience of workplace issues, relationship issues and a special interest in eating disorders, self-harm, survivors of childhood sexual abuse as well as anxiety, the elderly, loss of self-esteem and caring for carers.
