Nikki Wilkins MBACP
24 Story Lane
Welcome to my profile. My name is Nikki Wilkins and I am a Psychodynamic Counsellor providing support for adults, couples and young people. My practice is in Broadstone, Dorset with easy access from Poole, Bournemouth, Wimborne, Ferndown, Verwood, Blandford and Dorchester.
Counselling can be useful if you are weathering a current crisis, or if you want to deal with problems that are ongoing and entrenched.
If you are struggling with relationship issues whether with a partner, family or friends, feel low, are suffering from depression, have suffered from any type of loss, bereavement or trauma whether recent or in the past, feel anxious or have low self esteem, have concerns around your sexuality or reactions of others to this then counselling can be useful. Perhaps you are coping with everyday life but feel there may be an underlying problem that is stopping you from being yourself, from being happy then counselling can be a way of 'untangling the knots'.
I also have specialist knowledge in all areas of adoption and can support you with any issues this brings up for you. This may be relating to feelings around an adoption that took place many years ago or something that is happening right now. I can provide support around the loss of a child or birth family or around tracing and reunions which can bring up a wide variety of feelings and also practical issues.
I offer confidential and non judgmental support that will allow you to explore the issues that are important to you and gain greater self-awareness. You can then begin to make changes to the way you understand and manage your thoughts and feelings and ultimately the way you manage your life and relationships.
Please browse my website if you would like to know more about the type of counselling I offer and the benefits it can provide.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a BACP accredited Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and have experience of working in a variety of settings. In addition to working in private practice I work in the NHS with adults suffering from anxiety and depression, for a charitable counselling organisation and in a University working mainly with teenagers and young people.
I am approved to work with all areas of adoption (a legal requirement when working in this field) and have been trained by Barnardo's to provide support to birth family members, adoptees and all members of adopting families.
To ensure that my work stays current and is informed by recent developments in theory and practice I regularly attend continuing professional development workshops and seminars.
