About me

Hello. I am a person centred counsellor and a partner in Time to Talk Chester, a private practice located in the centre of Chester.

I understand how daunting it can be to look for a counsellor. It is possible that you are feeling anxious or depressed or struggling to manage your emotions at the moment.  I am pleased that you are reading my profile, my hope is that the therapeutic relationship we will build together will empower you and help you to find resources within yourself to overcome, or at least manage, feelings that may feel totally overwhelming at times.

Finding a counsellor is a very personal decision and it is important to find someone you feel you can work with. I believe that every individual has their story and finding someone to listen without bias or judgement and help unravel that story to gain more understanding and clarity can be a hugely empowering experience.

I have an MA in Person Centred Counselling and am a fully qualified member of the BACP.  I also have a Place2Be Level 4 qualification to Work with Children in Schools. Person Centred Counselling is non-directive, there are no judgements made and it is confidential. We will work at your pace, giving you the time and support to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe and accepting environment.

I have worked in a GP's practice for two years with issues ranging from depression, anxiety, eating disorders and bereavement to workplace stress. I currently work in private practice and for the NHS.

I offer an initial assessment to ensure you feel comfortable with your decision to work with me.  We will get an idea of what you are hoping to gain from the counselling and how we will then work together.  Sessions are usually weekly, and either for an agreed length or open-ended, we will tailor this to best meet your needs.

I work from a discreet private practice in the centre of Chester and have a second practice in a shepherd's hut outside the village of Malpas, Cheshire.

Training, qualifications & experience

Foundation in Counselling - University of Chester,
MA in Clinical Counselling - University of Chester.
Level 4 Certificate in Counselling Children in Schools - Place2Be

I am a fully qualified person centred counsellor and a member of the BACP.

My work is firmly rooted in Attachment Theory and as a person centred counsellor I work with whatever the client brings in a non-directive, non-judgmental manner.

I regularly attend further training events to increase the breadth of my knowledge. Sessions are 50 minutes long and I work with individuals for an agreed time period or on an open ended basis depending on each client's requirements.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
