About me

Hi, my name is Nikki and I am available to listen to you in complete confidence about anything that is currently troubling you. Let me help you understand your feelings and provide you with a safe space for you to talk about difficulties that are affecting you right now, so please don't suffer in silence because your feelings are important.

Could you benefit from talking to someone who cares about how you feel, with someone unbiased and non-judgemental, in confidence? With someone who will encourage you to have and express your own feelings no matter how bad they may seem to you? Someone who will explore difficulties and possibilities with you? Having someone listen to us is probably the best medicine we can give to ourselves in any situation.

I work from a humanistic perspective which means clients may, if they choose, freely explore their whole life experience, past, present and future. My work is predominantly person centred, meaning that I tailor my approach to best fit your individual needs, beliefs and experiences. I often also work existentially, looking at life a little more abstractly, or from different perspectives, in order to help you find a way forward in your life.

There are many reasons why people may seek the help of a counsellor for problems or issues they may be facing. At these times finding the right counselling support can be of enormous benefit. Clients may find answers by exploring their thoughts/feelings or maybe discover hidden resources within themselves and some find it helpful just to have someone understand what it feels like for them. Whatever your reason, counselling could be your way forward.

Depression
Do you feel unhappy most of the time? Are you losing interest in life and can't seem to enjoy anything? Do you find it difficult to cope with things like you used to? Do you feel utterly tired, restless and agitated? Do you find yourself avoiding other people or avoiding going out? Ever thought it would be easier if you could just end it all?

Relationship & Family Issues
Are you in an unhealthy relationship? Is your partner controlling? Jealous? Does your partner humiliate you or does your partner repeatedly do things to upset you? Does your partner fail to accept any responsibility for their actions/behavior and always blame you? Do you want this relationship to change?

Are your children causing you problems? Is your teen uncontrollable? Are you finding it difficult to cope? Are your children dis-respectful and ungrateful? Would you like your relationships to be better?

Stress
Are you constantly worrying? Do you have anxious or racing thoughts? Are you finding it difficult to concentrate? Are you irritable, short-tempered or feeling overwhelmed? Do you have a sense of loneliness, isolation, depression or general unhappiness? Stress can affect us in lots of different ways, from work, academic and financial stresses to stresses that result from family issues or pressures.

Anxiety

Sometimes we are not aware of when we're feeling anxious but we can recognise the physical sensations in our body and when we feel these sensations occur it can sometimes prevent us from doing something new or different, challenging people or even completing a normal or everyday task. Talking and exploring with a counsellor can help you become aware of your feelings and may help you understand and conqueor fears. We are all afraid of something.

Bereavement
Have you lost someone close? Feel like you can't go on? Do you feel that no-one really understands what it is like for you?

Anger
Are you angry and frustrated?  Do you find yourself exploding at others for minor incidents? Do you then feel guilty? Would you benefit from exploring the reasons behind these outburts?

Betrayal
Has someone betrayed your trust? Has someone you trusted completely let you down? Times like this can be absolutely devastating, and the sense of loss can feel overwhelming.

Guilt
Do you feel guilty for not doing something or not doing enough? Are you feeling overwhelmed by guilty feelings of inadequacy? Are you finding it hard to forgive yourself?

Will I Ever Be Good Enough?
Do you often wonder Will I Ever Be Good Enough? This is a very common and unnamed wound which is debilitating and stops us moving forward with confidence.

These are just some issues I have worked with and these can affect most of us at some point during our lives. Counselling can help you deal with the feelings involved and find a way forward. If you decide to come for counselling, I will provide you with a non-judgemental, supportive and understanding service in a safe and confidential environment.

Sharing and exploring within ourselves enables us to find our capacity to move in the direction of a more fulfilling and satisfied way of being bringing confidence, joy and hopefulness back into our lives.

Finding the right counsellor for you is very important because you need to feel comfortable. Therefore, my initial consultation is only £30,  giving you the opportunity to decide if I am the right person for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
